What's up Texans. I've got some free time for this coming spring break...Big Bend is at the top of my list. I know it's going to be crowded, but I wanted to see if y'all had any other ideas on places to go camp/adventure. I'm looking for a getaway: camping, exploring, etc. I'm not super experienced in "adventuring" but I'm trying to learn.

    What do y'all got?

When is your spring break? Because Toyota Jamboree is in Gilmer in the spring.

I want to go to Jambo so bad but it's just at a tricky time of year for me. Unfortunately my travel time is already booked for the rest of 2020. Hopefully I can get a kitchen pass or something ;)

Big Bend is awesome! I've been to the National Park once and loved it. I haven't been to the nearby state park, but I understand it's also nice and the roads are a bit more rugged. It may also be less crowded since it's not as well known as the national park.

Yea I was looking at going to BBSP instead of the National park but I've got a stock tundra and I'm going solo. I don't have as much experience going offroad so I'm not sure how well it would work out. Don't want to risk too much.

If it is stock 4x4, you will be fine in the SP. Just a few dry creek bottoms you would need to avoid. Most of the 4x4 trails in the Natty Park, you could drive a Honda Civic down. There are a couple of challenging ones... but nothing too bad. Mostly clearance issues below and to each side. The scenery and lookouts in the NP are far superior though.

Any particular trails to avoid in the SP? What campsites should I target? I'm not completely averse to going there.

I haven’t been to the SP, but the NP has lots of easy trails, some are more like dirt roads. I didn’t have enough time to explore the whole park, much less all its trails, though.

Just check with the Park Ranger at the entrance. They will look at your truck and offer suggestions. Things can change quickly out there and I only was in there on 2 day trips. We usually spend most of our time in the National Park. You can also call them prior to arrival to see what conditions are like. Have fun!

Nice photo. I haven't been to Hidden Falls yet. How full-size friendly are the trails?
