Guys, looking for input on this...truck currently has AMP Research automatic running boards that my wife and mother rely on for getting in and out of the truck when they ride with me. That said, the driver's side is starting to give me issues about not going back into full recessed mode especially when the truck is dirty. Mostly heavily dirty during deer season. Going to and from camp, the truck is filthy during season. It seems to do a little better if it is pressure washed between trips to and from. Anyway, the question is for you guys with sliders. I am not an overlander and don't plan any rock crawling, but like the look of sliders over fixed running boards/steps. Is there enough step surface area for it to be functional for the height challenged? In other words, can my 5'1" Mom still use it to get into the back seat when she rides with us to the Casino???

My wife is 4'9" and has no problems getting into, and out of my Pro without any steps at all. I guess it would depend on her physical ability. I think rock sliders would work for her. If not, then this:

I actually keep one under the seat just in case.

Depends on the brand. My CBI’s work perfectly since they run parallel to the ground from the frame. I believe demello also makes theirs this way. Some companies design theirs angled upwards to hug the door panels and it wouldn’t be used as a step easily.

Aside from being rock protection, steps, they also provide an additional layer of side impact in the event of a crash.

Yes, sliders work perfectly for steps.

get one of those larger sliders like the victory4x4 or demello. they have a bigger stepping area than some more hardcore sliders especially since you are not gonna use them to their full potential.

I got the P&P sliders and had them Monster lined for protection and foot grip as a step-slider. I don't off road but wanted a bulletproof, nonslip step, that is not "hanging" down like most steps. It works perfectly as both a protective addition, and a secure, non-flexing step rail.
