Like a lot of you, my 5.5ft crew max bed is rusting along all support cross members from underneath and has worked its way all the way through the bed. I realize that my best route is getting an entire bed swap from a salvage yard. Overall the frame and all components are in really good shape for living in the salt belt.

my question is, after I get the new bed to the body shop, painted and line-X... has anyone line-Xed the underside of the bed and cross member supports for long lasting protection? Or would simply just painting the underside be enough?

the truck only has 90k miles and I like to run it into the ground. Hopefully 300k miles plus

Also if looking to just clean up the existing rust to make it last for now, you could kill the rust with some muriatic acid. Afterward let it dry and then hit it with por15. Just be careful with it and make sure to use eye protection and gloves etc.

I’m curious, what did you end up doing with you bed - replace or repair. I’m in the same boat, having just purchased an 08 with 70k. Like you, I will drive it until the wheels fall off!
