Some. Probably less than a quart. The ATF won't be under pump pressure, and you're talking only about passage and cavity volumes higher than the side openings. The real volume in the converter is pretty much trapped.

In your position, I would forget about trying to jack up the right side higher than the left to prevent ATF leaking out. Whatever that volume is; it is what it is. ATF is cheap compared to your safety. You may need to jack the truck up, and place jackstands on four corners just to get working room (Don't do this unless you need to; working under a raised vehicle is risky enough without jackstands.) Jacking one side higher than the other, especially while using jackstands, is the perfect recipe to get you squashed like a bug.

Okay, if it's less than a quart I will be good. I have 4 quarts on hand to fill the cooler, hose, and whatever I lose from taking off the plate. Thanks for your help.

I said maybe less than a quart, but I have absolutely no way of knowing. Buy 20% to 30% more fluid than you think you'll need. If you have some left over, you can always use it for "drain and fill" maintenance.

Hmmm. I might just jack the side up so I don't lose more than I have. I have 6-ton jack stands that will be more than safe. Plus, the truck only have 1900 miles on it, no need to lose fluid if it is preventable.

The issue is NOT the capacity of the jackstands. The problem is the stability of jack stands with the contact patch potentially angled or sloped, potential contact area reduction, unstable platform, etc. If you don't have enough experience to make a good assessment, you could injure or kill yourself.

For the safety of you and your Tundra, my advice once more before you begin is that you should pay someone to install this cooler for you. Take your Tundra and the parts you've acquired to an RV store/shop and get a quote for the installation labor.

It is honestly not that hard. If you use the frame and have double redundancy it's not an issue. I will not pay someone to do this when I have all the tools needed and common sense.

Maybe get some ramps instead of jack stands and just drive the passenger side front and rear up on them. Seems safer as long as you chalk it so it doesn’t roll.

I’m always worried every time I work under a jacked up vehicle.

With what's at stake here, I would consider "overthinking it" a good thing, but's thats just me.

Got the spacer removed and the cooler installed. Only lost ATF that was in the warmer. Now, just waiting for my final revision of my cooler radiator mount to come in on Tuesday and will get everything buttoned up.

Did you notice if the spacer orings were the same size as the ones that came with cooler plate? Thinking about picking up some spare orings incase one gets pinched, but if the spacer ones are the same size then I wont bother.

The spacer o-rings are the same size. The cooler I bought came with the o-rings on it so the ones in the photo are extras.

How tight did you go with the warmer/thermostat bolts when you reassembled?

I just snugged them then put maybe a 8th of a turn. We will see if it leaks when I get everything hooked up.

Yeah, they're squeezing o- rings so good and snug is likely enough.

Trying to slow myself down, lol, -30 here so gonna be awhile till I attempt this.

Lol. Yeah I'm sure your transmission doesn't need a cooler right now.

I’m surprised no one has added a b&m tranny pan, It adds an additional 3.5qts capacity...

Does it make a significant difference in temperature though? Pretty expensive to find out.

Nice! Looks like your new mount is in a different position than at first. Any chance of a pic w/o the grill?

Wouldn’t think so as the transmission temp is going to generally follow the temp of the coolant with this set up, right? It might take a bit longer to get additional fluid up to the “designed” operating temp but once it’s there it *should* be pretty stable unless you’re really pulling up a hill. But it’s probably going to average 220ish all the time with the factory set up regardless.

This is a picture I took last night so not the best quality. The cooler is not tightened all the way so its sagging a little bit. I am now just waiting on 45° adaptors to come in the mail to hook up the hose and fill the tranny with ATF with a level check. I am trying to complete this project as soon as the adaptors come in then I will see if there is any interest in folks buying the mount I designed.

Did you end up running hose all the way from the trans thermostat to the cooler or did you use the oem metal lines as well?
Cooler design change, just using the three tapped areas to mount it?

I haven't ran hose yet. I need to wait until the adapters come in then drill holes and put grommets on the air deflector. I will have everything done here in a few days.

I see many trans coolers have what they call "cold weather bypss" that redirects thicker trans fluid back to the transmission until it warms up. Is a type of cooler like this necessary seeing as we also have the warmer?

On the other hand I guess the thermostat kind of controls flow regardless.
