This thread is to discuss the Flex Fuel Option. Start with answering the Poll if you use the flex fuel option or not.

Here are some questions to get started in discussion on this topic:
    • How does the Flex Fuel option work? What mechanically/electrically is added to make it work?
    • What is the correct way to switch between the two types of gas?
    • Does a truck with the Flex Fuel option get better or worse MPG than non FF?
    • How drastically is MPG decreased when running e85?
    • Does the lower price of e85 offset the difference in MPG?
    • Does the Flex Fuel Option eliminate the option of adding a supercharger? If so what are the reasons?
      • No. A supercharger can be added but additional components are required.

No supercharger for flex fuels... unless you want to void your warranty and try to add a stand alone. Supposedly Sparks has an option for adding a charger, but I've never actually seen a flex fuel with one online or in person.

The supercharger is possible on the flex fuel trucks. The does physically fit on the truck, but there are a few downsides. The first is that this will void the warranty. The second is that there is no way to make the factory computer talk to/work with the SC. To allow the proper changes for fuel and spark a "piggyback" ECU controller is needed. See my reference in this link: http://www.smokeysdyno.com/articles/toyota-tundra-trd-supercharged-flex-fuel/

Thank you Sean for digging those up. These should help out those that are considering the purchase of a FF truck or wondering if they should try the e85 if they already have a FF truck.

If I had known you couldn't slap the trd charger on a flex fuel without Jerry rigging the truck I wouldn't have bought a flex. I had know idea. I was sure I had researched it all, but sometimes you just miss things. Now I look at it like I saved 6k and all that premium fuel money!
