Looking to do a set of smoked tail lights on my cement 3rd gen. Any vendor suggestions (either “recommend” or “avoid”) along with pics would be most appreciated.

I got my stock lights tinted. I didn't want to deal with aftermarket issues. Changing the third brake light out looks like to much of a pain for one mod.

seen most just tint themselves. From the reviews Ive read it seems to look well upon completion, and is the route I will try first.

I just got some smoke film from Amazon to try my tail lights. I'll do the 3rd brake light too. Should be easy for that, the tail lights will be hard. I don't expect to succeed lol

I went with OEM style smoked, and filled them full of GTR Leds. Search "Akkon" branded on ebay or Amazon

I did mine today, taillights as well. 3rd brake light was very easy, especially compared to the taillights

I have a set of light smoke overlays. They are too light for my liking. The brand of film is Oracal and they were cut custom from bluebatoverlays. PM if interested.....

$1 eBay film to 3rd brake cover. Take a pin to it for the screw holes.

As for tinted tails, I’ve seen OEM looking replacements from different Chinese rebrands. Or Spyder or Recons with the tubular lights inside, “red smoke” is the tint you’re after. Winjets imo have a StarWars look. That said, stock would be the most reliable, and it be a bitch if one aftermarket side went out.

Wrapping isn’t clean because we have fins on the side of stock. A professional spray tint can look clean, DIY is tougher and doesn’t look good if scratched or flake.

I prefer to be visible and also installed a bright Putco bar to keep people back. So humid hot that snow looks refreshing lol

I just used a light smoke shade of vinyl wrap from Amazon. They are kind of light but I didn't want too dark. I like this shade.

Stay away from Winjets unless you want to open them up and re-glue everything with quality adhesive vs the hot glue they used. That being said, once I replaced the glue I haven't had any issues with them.

I had a body shop paint them. I'll be taking my 1st gen to them soon. The lights are too dark on it, and the third is not tinted.

What LED bulbs are you guys using in them? I'd like to find something for my rear turn signal that doesn't require splicing or tapping anything.

Yup it's still on there. If you wanna do 1 piece of film for the light I think the best way is to cut the film around the fin a little and lay it down around it. It should cover the fine even when you cut a slit. Kinda hard to explain but it works. I don't have any peeling of lifting as of now. I think the 2 piece kit may work better but its expensive

I have been debating this. I like to be visible but I like the look of smoked taillights with my MGM.

I got my from recon. Daytime brightness isn’t the greatest but no issues at night. They light up the front of my house when I back into my spot.

The Spec-D Sequential smoked LED tails off Carid are pretty dope. I got black and I’ll be using some nite shades to tint mine as soon as this rain clears up.
