    I’m looking into renting a small travel trailer for the weekend. The rental company requires I have a brake assist on my vehicle. Is the tow/haul function the same as what they require or do I need to purchase a brake assist system?? Thanks in advance.

    No. they are talking about a brake controller. If you have an OEM hitch then your truck will be pre-wired for one, just need to buy and install one.
