A balanced diet consisting of healthy fats / carbs / protein in quantities that promote whatever your weight goal is where you should start. Figure on 40% calories from protein, 40% from carbs, and 20% from fats. Use any of the food tracking apps you like, I use MyFitnessPal.

If you want to lose weight then you need to consume lower calories than you expend / burn, period. A good balanced diet will help promote burning more fat than muscle while losing weight. I have found that Intermittent Fasting is the most efficient and easiest way for me to control my calories.

Then it’s just sticking to the tried and true basic stuff that has always worked, and will continue to work for 99.999999999% of the population. And “no”, you aren’t in that 0.00000001%.

    - BE CONSISTENT. Consistently adhering to an average program will always outperform even the best program done half assed.

    - Eat more green things, and less white things. This means more green veggies, and less sugar / pasta / bread / etc.

    - Drink more water, and less booze / soda / juice / sugar.

    - Sleep more. Focus on 6-8 hours, make it a priority.

    - Move more. Walking is a great way to help lose weight, and easy on your joints. Also easy to scale up a walk by adding speed / incline / load. Then add in some basic body weight stuff when you feel up to it (air squats, lunges, push ups, sit up, burpees, etc).

    - BE CONSISTENT. You got fat because you lacked discipline and will power in regards to your health. These are easily remedied by refocusing on the basics. Consider your weight loss as just as much a mental goal as a physical goal.

A simple rule too. “Would my great grandparents have eaten this?”

Ask this about everything. Simple, real food

My advice would be, everyone and their bodies are individuals. There are so many approaches to losing weight and maintaining it so everyone here is right. :) Try different things, and find what works for you. I know my path is not the same as yours. I have used every method but what worked best for me was HIIT and clean/whole foods. But to get the ball rolling, yes, start simple, start small, and build up your momentum. As other members have stated, doing too much always leads to people falling off because it's too much. Try cutting out sweets/snacks/sodas, replace with something healthy/more water. If you fall off the wagon, just get back on, don't stop because you had a moment of weakness. We all are human and will have cheat days.

Headaches due to activity are usually dehydration and probably imbalance of electrolytes. Try drink water with a bit of lemon juice and a dash of salt. That usually helps me, as a banana or coconut water (with no added sugar), those help with hydration too.

Anyways, cheers and good luck on your new journey! :)
