That sounds like quite a bit of stuff. I'll post a write-up with links this week/weekend for my backup cam setup. It's cheap and has been pretty good. After driving my wife's car I fell in love with having a camera showing what's right behind me.

@Professional Hand Model I ended up installing Katana's while you were on tour with Zoolander. Their low beam performance is solid. High beam output is too concentrated to one spot. We're you able to adjust them to fix this?

I saw your post yesterday and was glad you made the choice. Glad they are working for you. Would love to see an equal distance comparison before and after shot to give us apple to apples.

The low beams are solid as you say. High beams are not the best and seem to be almost like a spot light type concentration which I noted as well in my review. I rarely ever high beam and if I do its for a brief time and for long range viewing. High beam was not a deal killer. Sadly, no adjustment can be made on the high beam.

The low beam is very nice and did adjust the angle down at first, but have made slow adjustments up to previous range in small increments to see how other drivers would react. So far zero flashbacks.

Side note: During daylight hours people seem to stare at the light as if mesmerized by the headlights as I drive past them. Also, people seem to pull out in front of me more often than before. Just weird antidotal observations.

When the weather is gloomy and overcast I will put my lights on and I seem to have more people pull out in front of me. No idea why this is. I'm sure the white, black, and grey cars, that never turn their lights on in bad weather never get anybody pulling out in front of them.

Have you been flashed at all since the switch? I was driving around 0200 Sunday at had 2 different drivers flash their high beams at me. That was the first time since I made the switch.

If I do it, I'll most likely go with long tube and new exhaust. Likely not until April or so.

I realized that I've done a lot of odd/small jobs to the truck the past few months but haven't been updating this thread. I stole a lot of ideas from other members and got help on a few items. As usual, the people here are always willing to lend some help.

On the outside I did my annual fluid film application. Makes the frame look nice

    upload_2020-1-3_14-27-22.jpg

I also repainted my grill with Rustoleum rattle can bedliner.

    upload_2020-1-3_14-28-6.jpg

I used that same product to repaint my faded door trim. Then I covered the old chrome strip with some 3M carbon fiber. It turned out nice.

    upload_2020-1-3_14-39-56.jpg

I flushed the power steering fluid but made a huge mess. I wouldn't recommend that method.

    upload_2020-1-3_14-28-57.jpg

I pulled the old roof drip molding up, cleaned it out, painted them, and reinstalled. Hopefully that buys me a few more years as they were showing their age.

    upload_2020-1-3_14-30-40.jpg

I also learned how to take the slack out of the parking brake cable, which made the brake pedal feel slightly better. Still mushy at times but that's just 1st gen life.

    upload_2020-1-3_14-32-12.jpg

I also painted my OEM mats to try and postpone buying new ones for a little while.

    upload_2020-1-3_14-32-45.jpg

    upload_2020-1-3_14-34-43.jpg

Moving on to the inside, I added Noico to a the doors and behind the rear seat. This made the truck a little quieter, and the speakers sound better now.

    upload_2020-1-3_14-35-55.jpg

Lastly, I mounted my Fiskars Axe. I believe this makes me official.

    upload_2020-1-3_14-37-57.jpg

I'm pretty much done with all the exterior projects until I move on to more expensive items this spring. The next thing I'll be doing is adding a new double din stereo and mounting a backup camera.

@FirstGenVol - You mentioned in the build notes that you're not very happy with the Icon add a leaf pack, why is that? I've been starting to look at upgrading suspension for my 06 double cab, and the Icon stage 2 kit has been at the top of the list. How have you liked the other components of the kit?

My main complaint is that they advertise this as creating 1.5" of lift in the rear. They specifically state you need to remove the overload spring. I got less than .5" initially. After settling, I have basically no lift from it. It did improve the ride by maybe 10%. I talked to 4-5 other people and all had similar results except for 1 person that said he got the 1.5". If you leave the overload spring in, you will get more out of it but the truck will ride rougher.

While it's not been proven, the word is that Wheeler's add-a-leaf is a better option. I would look into that before buying the ICON add-a-leaf.

The coilovers are good, but I'm not in love with them. I will say that I'm the only member here that isn't crazy about them. The other people that went with ICON love them. For how much they cost, I thought the truck would ride a little nicer.

When I was pricing the parts out, it was actually cheaper for me to buy them individually, as crazy as that sounds.

It's just difficult to disconnect the return line, hook up the clear hose, and then reconnect later on, without making a big mess. You don't want to let the reservoir get completely empty because you can suck air into the system so as soon as you disconnect the return line you're going to lose fluid until you get something on the reservoir. In my case, my little funnel fit perfectly but I didn't know that until I was already committed. Also, my clear hose wasn't the correct diameter which added to the mess.

I'm curious how a shop would do it. I'm sure they have a better method.

Today I finished up installing my Apline ILX w650 and my NATIKA backup camera.

I mounted the camera to my tailgate handle. I had originally planned to mount it to my camper shell but didn't want to have to unplug it if I need to remove the shell.

Because of that, the camera is white so it doesn't blend it very well to the handle. I can live with that. I had to use all 3 wedges they supply in order to angle the camera out far enough to not show the tailgate handle.

Once you mount it you have to run the wire down the end of the tailgate where there is a hole at the bottom to feed it though.

    0307201259_HDR.jpg

    0307201259.jpg

From there I tapped into my reverse light on the driver side using the quick connectors they provide.

    0306201522.jpg

After that I just ran the wire along the frame until you find the little rubber grommet in the driver floor boars. @speedtre helped me locate this from below. In hindsight, it's a lot easier to just find it from above. You're gonna want to test the camera first before you potentially waste time running the wire down the length of the vehicle.

I just cut a X into it so I could feed the wire through.

    0306201418.jpg

    0306201416.jpg

I ended up paying Crutchfield $25 to have them wire the harness and their work is clean!

    0305201707a.jpg

It would have been plug n play but I tied in a parking brake bypass.

I've got a low hoop Brute Force Fab bumper on order. It should be here in late July. I've also got white knuckle sliders ordered as well. If anyone has any suggestions on paint/primer I should use for both, please let me know. White Knuckle recommends spraying the top with something that provides a bit of slip protection.

I'm a huge fan of how Bed liner looks on sliders and bumpers. If you use this product, you can pick pretty much any color you want.

Details on the headlights/projectors and light output?

when you painted your bed rails was that with the same rustoleum for the trim? How’s it holding up, I need to do both of mine...

You can find more info on the headlights here. I had @SouthPaw build them for me. Mine are basic plug n play but he can make fancier ones or answer your questions I'm sure.

Yes, same paint. It's held up really good so far from what I can tell. But I also have my camper riding on them so I can only see a little bit of the exposed rail. It's holding up better than the bedliner spray that I used elsewhere. I've not had good luck with that for some reason.

Installed the remaining CVJ axle today. While I had it open I also removed the needle bearing and installed the East Coast Gear Supply bushing.

I had a local shop powder coat my Brute Force bumper for $140. They did a great job but I thought the powder coat would be more durable. We already managed to scratch it in several places. I guess that's bound to happen either way.

I've got the OEM bumper removed so I can get the new one installed soon.

Powder isn't as durable as some make it. I got some scuffs on mine too but it'll get more in the future!

I wanted to say this yesterday, but you are correct. Its not a bullet proof finish. Its actually over rated. New Rattle Can technology is superior as long as you follow directions. Plus, you’ll have touch up capabilities. Powder coat doesn’t touch up as easily as the exact Rattle Can match.

Ospho does well as a raw metal prep prior to Rattle Can.

I actually got lucky using that Bed Liner rattle can. Because I went with a textured powder coat it matched surprisingly well. I touched up the scratches and then I just now sprayed the exposed bolts. I'll hit them again tomorrow and get the edges I missed.
