Back when I bought my 2018 1794 I replaced the original chrome grill with a color matched grill identical to the Platinum grill. When I was in for annual service this week the dealer refused to do the sensor update (I think they put a sealer in there?) saying they could not work on it because it was not the original grill. Mine has been working fine so not too concerned they would not work on it but it is a poor position for Toyota to take. Sounds like the hassle owners of lifted trucks have been receiving with their TSS sensors.

Posting this as a warning to others but also just to see what others think of this Toyota approach. I mean if we tint our windows does that mean they will not work on anything under warranty? An extreme example but I think it makes my point that if Toyota continues this trend it could be difficult to get anything done by them.

They are extra touchy with things regarding TSS since it's a safety feature. Bummer, but kinda expected IMO. :notsure:

This is nothing new man. They know you physically handled the sensor in order to make the swap. So you voided that portion. Similar to opening up a computer case and damaging the manufacturer tape indicating the case was opened.

Dealerships have been released to fix tss issues up to 3” of lift by Toyota and have given me not a drop of trouble about doing recalls and updates on mine.

Try a different dealership. I have different wheels, tires, leveled, and a pro grille that has been relocated. My local dealership did mine with zero hassle. They also sell new tundras that they lift in house.

Maybe another dealer? The Tacoma I just traded in got the recall with an Amazon pro grill. It’s really hit or miss by dealers. I’m fortunate enough that my service department is amazing.

Is there a site to find out about TSBs like this?

I just googled Toyota tsb and found it that way. Had to find the tsb for updating the transmission so I could get it done. Was standing in front of the service rep while I did it so it’s quick.

This will get you recall info, but some TSBs aren't publicly available. The TSS campaigns were both on there (K0A, K0B I think).

Just trying to find out how to know if there are TSBs out without going to a dealer since I do my own maintenance and dont like going to a dealer unless I actually need to, so far only thing I've been able to find is if there are safety recalls but no way to search for TSBs.

There have been 3 options for that... Google your year/make/model+open recalls, Toyota Owners which you just need to create an account and enter your VIN, or the blog that @Predator Tundra provided has a link to https://www.safercar.gov/ that you can throw in your VIN and see anything applicable. I don't think there's a straight up compiled list, short of what that blog had, that will just spell out every TSB ever released for a Tundra.

Predator Tundra mentioned he found a TSB for a transmission update for a what would guess is a 2020 Tundra, I see nothing on Google for that which is why I asked. All those other options are either only for up to 2017, or just safety recalls, not TSBs for something like a ECU update, even the Toyota owners site just shows safety recalls. Maybe I'm missing something but people have definitely been able to not only find TSB information but even files to flash with TechStream for them. Just trying to be in the know.

For what it’s worth - I have a 2019 SR DC, and recently put on a 2017 Pro Grille and the Jomax relocation bracket.

Before doing the mod, I checked to make sure I took care of any TSS sensor recalls and when I looked mine up it didn’t come up as being included in the recall campaign. My sensor has some foam tape around the top left corner which seems to be a post-recall mod from Toyota. See pic.

I still would get occasional sensor inop warnings in heavy rain so I’m thinking the Toyota fix was lacking. The sensor seems to work just fine with the relocation mod no issues so far.
