hey guys I would like sone help deciding what suv to purchase I have a limited budget and I want to pay in cash.
my first choice is the sequoia due to how cheap they seem to be, in my area 1st gens with 200k miles are between 3 and 4k ( I know the engine is American made but I see people selling them with over 300k on them one even in the 400s, they are similar to the tundra, my first choice, but wayyyyyy cheaper and my dad loves his tundras )

second choice is the 4runner, my mom has owned one since 2005 and she never took care of it and it still manages to run decently, I like the look of them, its actually my favorite car I have ever driven but they're very expensive in my area 7k for one with 200k on it

third choice is the rav4, the pre 2005 ones look pretty ugly, they're pretty much around the same price as the sequoias.

here are the ones im looking at from favorite to least favorite but still can't decide
    2004 sequoia 190k miles- 4,500
2004 4runner v8 170k miles (price seems strangely low for how long its been on the market)-5,000
    2004 4runner v8 190k miles and gets one mpg more than a sequoia- 6,000
    2002 sequoia 225k miles-3,200
    2000 4runner 190k miles (with slight body rust)- 2,000
    1999 4runner 260k miles- 2000
    2004 rav4 180k miles- 3,500

I want something that is big enough to camp out of and the best value, for example the 2000 4runner should last me over 2 years because its 2 grand without major expenses and the 04 sequoia should last me over 4 and a half years because I payed 4 thousand five hundred.

    what do you guys think

its more of a goal (lol) I don't want to buy a 50k vehicle because it wouldn't last me 50 years. my goal is to buy a vehicle for a good deal that cost less than 1000 per year, my dad bought his 2002 tundra in 2005 for 12k and its lasted him 14 years and its still rolling along, I wouldn't want to purchase a 12k vehicle and have it break down in less than 12 years is what I was trying to say sorry for being confusing lol, im not planning on selling im planning on driving it into the ground

$1000 per year over lifetime is not a bad goal but you should probably consider what it might be worth when you finally sell it

I’ve never had a Gen 1 Sequoia, but have had a couple of Gen 2’s. They are excellent vehicles. Our first one went over 200k without a single mechanical failure. Never had to do anything but maintenance and wearable parts.

Not a lot of information to go from: for example, how many owners? A one-owner Toyota, well-maintained, would be my choice over a vehicle with 5 owners at that mileage.

Anyway, I'd choose from these three:

    2004 sequoia 190k miles- 4,500
2004 4runner v8 170k miles (price seems strangely low for how long its been on the market)-5,000
    2004 4runner v8 190k miles and gets one mpg more than a sequoia- 6,000

Which one looks in better condition?
If one has a really clean interior, it probably was better cared for in general.

    YMMV

the 4runners each had 3 owners, the 6k one seems to be in better condition too
the sequoia has one owner and looks pretty clean as well ( I was leaning towards the sequoia )

Get an '05 or newer 4.7 on whichever model you get. Here is why from Wikipedia on the Sequoia (same engine details [VVT-i] apply to a V8 4th Gen 4Runner):

"For the 2005 model year, the Sequoia received a mild facelift. A new engine equipped with VVT-i was new for 2005, as well as a 5-speed automatic transmission, replacing the previous 4-speed. 4 wheel drive models got a Torsen center differential, replacing the previous open differential, that splits power in full-time mode 40% front and 60% rear under normal driving, and can send up to 53% to the front and 71% to the rear during slip. The grill was redesigned, and the orange lamps were removed from the taillights."

Luck and enjoy those Toyotas. : ^ )))

IMO there's always a market for V8 4Runners. I'd pick up one of those if you're out camping by yourself. If it's 2 people and a dog or something like that, maybe go Sequoia. Either way, I'd chop those last 4 off the list and probably go with the one of the top three that has been maintained the best. Good luck!

Sounds like you have already made your choice and are just looking for validation.
