E1F48855-BDC1-4435-8338-0F4325FA2DD6.jpg I finally got my aluminum housing. But am I missing the cap that goes on the end? Didn’t come with one in the packaging. As is in the pic.

Yep, try the cap off the one you are replacing. Mine came with cap in a little plastic bag

Is the one that came with your aluminum one have a metal cap or plastic cap? I’m not sure what kind comes on the stock plastic one. I haven’t done my first oil change yet, so I’m not sure

    The valve cap is aluminum.

You reuse the perforated center tube (important) and the valve cap from the plastic housing. You have to bend down the tabs that keep the base of the perforated center tube from rotating, then rotate the tube past the retaining ears, and remove the perfortated tube for reinstallation into the new housing. Rebend the tabs after installing the original perforated tube in the new housing on top of the existing spring and valve.

Thanks for all the replies gentlemen! I just want to make sure I have everything for my first change. I’ll just use the one on the plastic housing.

So a Tundra 4x4 2017, 5.7 with tow package this one should fit? At my last "free" oil change the dealership gorilla really cranked the plastic one in there,,, changed the oil on my 2008 for many 11 years without issues but never cranked the factory cap on this tight either, broke 2 of the cheap changing wrenches trying to get this one off, am ordering the Motivx tool.

I believe they all the same, it should fit. You will need to switch the center perforated screen from the old to the new one.

Same thing happened here. Took a 2' cheater bar and neighbor holding my legs to get it off. I know from using a 1/2" torque wrench what 130 ftlbs feels like and it was every bit of that. Broke a cheap cast filter wrench. You don't need the best wrench just make sure it is not cast. Especially true when you do yourself and torque to spec. Dealership also left bolt out of skid plate and replaced one other with different bolt. I was pissed and had a little chat with service manager when I picked up new bolts. He offered to replace the cap I broke but I already did with a metal one. Glad I had it on hand because I destroyed the plastic one getting it off. Talk about pissd.

Changed mine out last weekend. I can't believe how tight it was on. I think it says tighten to about 24 ft-lbs give or take. The plastic one that was tightened at the dealership took a 1/2 breaker bar to remove.

Wow what a clusterfuk. I've never seen or heard of an oil filter like this. Stupid question but why is the filter like this and not the normal type? Is it shit tons better at filtering or something?

Its the european standard. Probably filters just the same as traditional cartridge type, just saves the metal. Otherwise no different really....Luck and enjoy those Toyotas. : ^ )

Hey guys, This might be a dumb question that I might answer myself when I get around to actually doing it. But I purchased all the goodies to change my oil, I got the new metal housing, the wrench for it, the fumoto valve, and the filter drain tool. Now I have a question, I have not looked at the new metal filter housing yet other than pics, but the filter drain tool I did inspect, does this screw in place and stay in place on the filter housing cap at all times? because it has a hole in it either way it is screwed in or out and always allowed me to blow air through it, which I would think would allow draining at all times too. I see in the quoted picture above that the housing has a little nipple looking piece inside though that it may seat against? But I have not been able to check it since I received all my parts. I hope this makes sense...

These are pics on eBay from the seller I bought it off of. Hopefully someone can help me out here.

I am assuming this means the valve is closed?

Filter Housing Drain Tool Closed Installed.jpg

And I assume this means the valve is opened?

Filter Housing Drain Tool Opened Installed.jpg

When the valve was not installed in the cap I could blow air through it either way it was. That was my only concern.

That valve should ONLY be used for draining the filter housing for filter changes. You do not want to leave it installed.

When the bottom portion of the drain valve is screwed into the position shown in the top pic, the spring-loaded check valve plate inside the filter housing is depressed allowing the housing to empty. Bottom picture pic shows the drain valve installed, but not deployed. There are no "works" inside the valve, so you should be able to blow through it.

The nice feature of the housing I linked above is that it uses a fumoto valve. Makes oil changes a breeze.

Thanks for the response. I was not aware that the housing has a "spring loaded check valve" in it. that all makes more sense now.

If you check the filter it has a plastic plug with it to engage the check valve to get drain. You don't want to spin the cover off without draining unless you like cleaning up oil

Yes, I knew about the plastic one, and everything Ive seen about oil changes, everyone recommends this brass screw-in style drain. I just didn't know how it worked, Ive never seen a filter housing like this before.

If you don't have a big funnel , cut open the bottom of a 5qt oil jug or a milk jug and use it upside down like a big funnel. it has a handle as well. Oil jug is stronger and holds better. Milk jugs are getting thinner everyday.

What would happen if you didn’t change the perforated tube on oil filter housing and use the shorter one that come with the aluminum housing? I didn’t change mine out and was wonder if it play a role in the length being different
