I live in some crappy apartments right now. The management are nice but they rarely clear the walkways and NEVER clear the parking lot. As a result the parking lot is quite literally hazardous, and is more suited for snow-shoeing or ice skating than it is parking and walking. About a week ago I wrote a really nice and respectful email to the managers (a guy who's about my age and his girlfriend) letting them know that my wife had slipped and fallen twice in the parking lot, once while carrying my 3-month-old daughter in her car seat. They responded respectfully, saying that they would get on top of it.

That night I come home and there is this older guy plowing snow. I know this guy as someone who lives here but don't recall his name. He has complimented my truck on multiple occasions, and he drives a pretty nice old Toyota Pickup that looks to be in great condition. We've had a few friendly conversations about our vehicles so I thought we were on good terms.

I park my truck in a spot far from the door because 1: it's already been plowed and 2: I always park far away to prevent idiots from dooring me. I gather up my kids and wife and as we walk in I give the guy the nod and he nods back. Once I get inside I get my dogs on their leashes and bring them outside for a walk. When I came around the corner I literally watch the guy turn the little aiming mechanism on the snow blower TOWARD my truck, and proceed to cover it with packed snow from a good 15' away. I approached him and asked him why he was doing that and if he would move the snow blower away I would move my truck. The first thing he said to me was "JUST GO AWAY, ASSHOLE!" I'm pretty sure at this point I said some colorful explitives back at him. Dude's got 1 tooth in his entire head and I'm pretty sure he's had a long, rough life sucking glass, and I'm pretty sure I let him know that too. I told him I just washed my truck and parked far away to avoid the snow blower to which he responded "don't worry buddy, I'll fix your truck tonight!"

I parked about a block away that night to avoid any damage to my vehicle.

Saturday (New Year's Eve) I got an oil change and washed my truck. At that point my hitch was in tact. Tonight I took my wife and kids out for steaks and when I got home my normal far away spot was gone so I had to park on a bunch of uneven packed snow in a fairly narrow spot that no one else had to guts (or skill ;) ) to maneuver in to. Because it was a tight spot I went in front first instead of backing in like I normally do. Because of the way I parked I walked around the back to get my daughter out and noticed the hitch was missing. I have no doubt that it was lil' red Yota dude who did it, and after talking with the apartment management and asking them to check their security cameras I'm even more positive it was him. They told me that he has been known to get in arguments with people for seemingly no reason and has even damaged people's vehicles in the past. Why the %&$^ he's still here is a mystery to me, but they told me this was his last chance and he's on his way out.

I also called the police this time - The hitch and lock aren't a huge deal and can be replaced relatively inexpensively, but I think the event needs to be on the record in case crackhead goes further.

I don't get why this shit happens to me. There are more than a couple elderly people in this building and I have shoveled many of their cars out of this shitty lot, cleared their cars, and even walked the lady at the end of the hall's dog a few time. Thankfully our house is almost done and this place will soon be nothing more than an unpleasant memory.

Sorry for the long ass wall of text. It was either this or go set that guy's truck on fire. Thanks for letting me vent.

Sorry Mike. Apartments suck. Atleast you'll be in your new beautiful house soon. Just got to tolerate a few more weeks. You're almost there man.

You guys are awesome. I apologize, just wanted to yell somewhere. This thing isn't a big deal but all these little things add up.

I think a night cap is in order.

Reminds me of an asshole at the gym I used to go to that keyed my car. I'd want to punch that old guy and then he'd have no teeth. Better to vent and move on. Good thing you're getting out of there. I believe what goes around comes around.

That sucks man. He sounds like a nut, clearly enjoys pissing people off.

I really hope it works out and he can be held accountable.

I wouldn't doubt it if the only way to make him stop is to make it so he's not angry toward you.

    Kill him with kindness.

You're probably right. I had already let it go before today, and while I haven't actually spoken to the guy since the first night I did say hello while passing outside the other day. A younger me would absolutely retaliate, but I can't now after spending 30 minutes explaining to my 6 year old why revenge isn't right - I'd be the world's biggest hypocrite.

I seriously can't wait to be out of here, hope I build better relationships with my new neighbors than I did with this guy!

I feel you brother. I hope you can get outta there quick!

I'm sure that 6 year old angel brings you more joy daily than that twisted miserable **** has ever felt in his whole life. You win the big picture, no matter what.

Plus your truck is way newer and nicer, and I bet you can chew food way easier.

Sorry to hear. There are some real low lifes out there. I recommend one of these http://www.boltlock.com/shop/58-receiver-lock/7023584/ most thieves are lazy and this will make sure it isn't worth the effort. On a separate note, the local Home Depot has all of their Resse hitches on sale. Your local store might have the same sale going on.

Thanks Randy, I was actually just looking at replacement hitches/pins. They have that same BOLT one on Amazon. The fact that I was comparing it and now you recommend it must mean something. ;)

    Yeah!

So according to the management lady, they had him working for them last winter to pay off some of his rent. He mostly shovels the walks (half-assed) and other yard work. She said that for awhile he would let his dog go all over and not pick it up, so she would watch him from her window and go after him if he left crap on the lawn. She said while watching him she saw him pour a full 32oz type cup of soda on someone else's car and that other people who have had arguments with him had also shortly after had stolen or damaged property. She said he's very argumentative. I told her that he and I had some conversations and I thought we were cool, and she basically said that that's how he is - he seems cool and whatever until he's breaking your shit. Apparently he was working off part of his rent last winter and they had to let him go because he was getting in arguments and stuff with people, covering up cars with snow (there is room to clear the snow without getting it all over people's cars. I understand some dusting with a snow blower but he straight AIMS it at cars and covers them with packed snow that becomes ice overnight).

They said they gave him another chance this year. He lost that when not only myself but another guy and his wife complained about him, all on the same night.

And yeah, I have no %^$&ing idea why he's still here if the management acknowledges these things. It makes me wonder at what point they are responsible for his asshattery?

So they re-hired a liability? Wow. I'm sure they have insurance that's covering all of his incidents.

This place is kind of half-assed managed. They don't even maintain the parking lot other than the bare minimum. I'm surprised one of these poor old ladies hasn't broken their hip out there yet. I learned from the lady at the end of the hall that the guy who used to live in the unit we're staying in fell on the stairs and had a pretty decent goose egg on his head for awhile but didn't press the matter as he should have.

I have shoveled out a few cars for older folks here because the management doesn't take care of it. The managers are nice and all but it's definitely amateur hour here.

    I would be so pissed.

Lucky for me, after the military, I never lived in apartment style living since...but may be in the next year (might build a house).

I might go get a dash camera that turns on with motion. Cheaper than a 500.00 deductible and catch the asshole in the act.

I haven't lived in an apartment since I was 20 until now. I sold my second house in May, was on the market 2 days before we accepted an offer. The new build was supposed to be done in September, but permit delays got in the way of starting when we planned on doing so. We were in some more secure apartments on a month to month lease, but after 6 months they wanted us to sign a 6 month lease to stay there. Fate kind of brought me to this shit hole. It's in an old hotel that has been converted to apartments. At first it was really charming and I thought it would be fun for 3 months.. Had I known then what I know now...

The truth is that living in apartments has been terrible.. I feel stressed all the time, have no outlet (garage, basement shop for gun stuffs, kitchen for tastifying a variety of different beasts) and am ready to just jump down people's throats for the simplest of shit lately.

Life happens and we have to do what we can. It sucks nonetheless, but boy will it feel great when you get into your new home. Total appreciation!!!

I have to ask, what the hell did you do with all your personal items? Just looking at what we have, and even if we tossed half it out we would still have to rent a few storage units. Is that what you did?

Two storage units. All my guns and guitars (which are many, some glorious) are in my possession. We also have every closet in this apartment packed nearly full. It's such a major pain in the ass.

Oh boy. I think maybe I will just make two house payments for a bit. This just doesn't sound like what I want to do.

That would just top it for me.

Guess my mind is made up. I have a camper I can live in for a short time and do just fine.
