Winter driving tips

We are gonna be driving from Texas to upper Michigan Marquette. I used to drive in the snow all the time in missouri but not with a truck this big or the 5.7 plus it's not 4x4. I don't really want to take her Dodge all the way up there because it's a single cab but 4x4. Any tips and advice I would love to know.. Like how to set the traction button should I sand bag it... Buy some chains stuff like that. I have had driver courses in the military with j turns pit maneuvers and stuff.

Yeah the lsd works well, just have weight in the back. If you think you are going to be in bad stuff, maybe some tire chains.

 

When you say lsd works well you mean without hitting the button right. Because if you hit it once turns it off right and at a stop for 3 second turns it off and alot of other stuff right.

 

No, if you start your truck and hit the button one time, it turns the auto lsd on. When you first start the truck you are in full nanny mode with no limited slip turned on.

All good tips, I drive my truck for work all through Alberta winters. I have driven through some pretty bad storms and have always managed to get to my destination (Knock on wood). Most important tip I can give is drive to the conditioins. Check the traction every once and awhile by breaking a little (not when someone is behind you) and get a feel for how the roads are.

Accept your timeline, try to give yourself some extra time for travel so you aren't rushed and stressed. I have the benifit of being paid while I drive so if I get slowed down by nbad weatther I try not to let it bother me. Just remember you will get there when you get there.

Amother one is watch your temp gauge, I fond the roads to be worse around -2, to -5 degrees when the snow is melting and freezing on the road.

And my personnal favorite is AVOID PEOPLE! Try and work yourself in to an area with lots of space on the highway. So many people cram themselves into convoys when a storm is occuring...this is just asking for trouble. I would rather put my truck in the ditch than ram into the back of someone and end up in a pile-up.
