I haven’t, because they only have rotary polishers. If they came out with a dual action I’d be all over it.

Read a post over at tacomaworld about the cord issue. Griot's will send a free cord if you're having the issue. They are finding that it is operator error which is causing it it unplug but still the customer is always right and will receive a new cord. In fact the guy at tacomaworld told griots he busted the locking tab while screwing around with it, and they are sending him a new cord, for free. That's above and beyond good customer support.

Ah. Makes sense. I'm not sure I'm ready to step into that realm myself.

I didn't break mine. I literally plugged it in started using it and the cord came out. Pushed it in again and the same thing happened, repeat over and over till I finished the truck. I will give them a call. Thank you.

That would have pissed me off to no end if I was trying to get a job done. I can certainly see why you'd be so frustrated. They will definitely take care of you when you call and explain your situation. It sounds like you have some kind of defect, hopefully an easy fix. Its easy for me to say to not give up on griot's and let them make it right, but I didn't go through what you did. But hopefully they'll get you squared away and you won't need to switch to a different brand.

I would be fuming and foaming at the mouth after spending $160 on the latest and greatest only to have it fail me and frustrate me. Idk if I'd get over it lol, I tend to dwell on crap for a long time

Does anyone own the GG 3" DA polisher? There is a guy selling one locally for $60, and wanted to see if it's worth it, even though I have the GG6?

That's a good price and I'd bet you can get it for $40. I'd go for it, especially since they have a lifetime warranty. That could be really useful for small areas like door posts and trim.

I tried to get it for $45, he said he got it at SEMA and wouldn't drop the price, but he would throw in a new pad for an extra $10............

Talk to me about backing plates. I'm sure my wife bought the G9 for me for Christmas. It comes with a 6 inch plate, I think. Why do people change to a 5? I just don't want to buy the wrong stuff.

People say that the 5" delivers more power and correcting abilities as well as easier to use and get into smaller areas. 6" works fine for most people. Surprisingly a 5" can decrease the time spent correcting because the smaller pads seem to correct faster than larger for most.
I had a 5" LC backing plate and a lot of 5" pads so for me I swapped it. I can use 6" pads on it if I want to. It's all preference.

So my wife bought me the G9 for Christmas.

I've put some stuff in my cart. Is this what I need?

I have my truck that just has some swirls and a few bad spots. A 2018 Pilot with swirls. My daughters 2018 Crosstreck that needs some correction, more than swirls. And my sons 2002 Chevy Truck that needs some paint correction.

What is the best pad to lay down some wax paste (waxaddict) after correction?
Is 4 of each pad enough?
How much product will I use per vehicle?

    Thanks in advance!

It looks good from my end. 4 pads should be enough. I’d only get more if you don’t want to be cleaning them out as often. I’d reserve the Fast Correcting Cream for the really bad stuff. It’s a really heavy cut. You’ll probably be able to achieve most of what you want with the Perfecting Cream.

Hard to say exactly how much product you’ll use per vehicle, but you don’t need to put very much on the pad at all. This video is usually the one I share for people wanting to get an idea of the process and how much product to use.

    https://youtu.be/Ja13RF1tMQ4

You can also look up Junkman2000 on YouTube. He’s goofy and long winded, but he does a great job demonstrating and teaching. You just have to skip around to find what you need.

I use the Griots red waxing pads for wax.

That griots pad and mf towel cleaner is good stuff and you can use it to machine wash towels. You can use an APC and water to clean most pads as long as you clean within a few hours of using them. I like using snappy clean citrus pad cleaner when I'm doing a car, I add some to a bucket of water and toss in the used pads as I go, it works great and is cheap ... https://www.detailedimage.com/Lake-Country-M7/Snappy-Clean-Pad-Cleaner-P62/
I got free samples of Blackfire (autogeek brand) pad cleaner and conditioner recently but I haven't used them. I would not pay the price they ask.
Something very important is to get a pad brush https://www.detailedimage.com/DI-Brushes-M51/Foam-Pad-Cleaning-Brush-P975/ for cleaning the pad before you add more product. You just turn on the polisher and gently rub the brush against the pad to clear out polish. You can also use compressed air for this and it works about as well as a brush.
One thing to consider is using microfiber pads instead of foam, it kinda seems like maybe the industry is going that way. I have several MF pads and I like them a lot.
You can get 10% at detailedimage with discount code DetailedImage9813

Thanks for the info @Pudge .

I would prefer to buy what I need without doing trial and error like I did with my other detailing supplies.

What microfiber pads, compounds, polish would you recommend?

I'm open to everyone's suggestions on this. I've never used a polisher.

I like buff and shine MF pads but it seems everyone is making them now. I think lake county makes great pads, also griots, carpro, and even meguiars.
For polish I like carpro essence
For compound I like carpro clear cut
But i hear the griots stuff is top notch so its not a bad idea to go with griots

I’ve just recently started using Buff N Shine Eurofiber pads, and they do very well. I don’t think they’ll work for final polishing though. I got some of the Griots pads also. I hear good things about them, but haven’t tried them really so far.

Finally bought some stuff for my G9. Sky's the Limit had 20% off for Christmas special. Talked to Corey and this is what I ended up getting.

    1 x Scholl Concepts S20 BLACK - 1 Kg
    4 × Scholl Concepts 5 1/2" Purple Spider pad
    4 x Scholl Concepts 5 1/2" Finishing - Neo Spider Pad "Honey"
4 x Scholl Concepts 5 1/2" Navy Blue Spider pad
    4 × Buff and Shine Red Wax & Sealant Pad 5 1/2"
1 × Polishing Pad Cleaning Brush

I really like doing business with Sky's the Limit. They have a new program that gives you 3% store credit back on all purchases and 20% off was a great deal.

I still need to buy a backing plate plus some pad cleaner but I should be set for a bit I hope.

The scholls s20 is good stuff. You'll like it. I used it a little and was impressed.
I like the lake country backing plates and they are reasonably priced. Be careful of knockoffs on Amazon. I bet the griots is good too, and I think its vented which is nice.
Try griots MF and Foam Pad cleaner, it's cheap and works great for cleaning pads and can be used in the washer for towels too.
