The vets on here are right on. I worked with a small animal veterinarian for ten years. And i agree with them get the teeth cleaned. Your dog will love you more.

Went to the first consult today.
We should get the bloodwork results back on Monday.
We’re gonna do a cleaning and x rays and the vet said she will decide on pulling any teeth From there. She said just by looks there might be 2 that need to be removed but will know for sure after the x rays.

Sure enough, she said the same exact thing as you guys. That grain free is no longer recommended.

This is an honest question. lots of these “grain free” dog food manufacturers are using more pea, tapioca, potato starch to make up bulk in place of the grains.

Is it possible that such large amounts of pea and potato products might be causing a new problem, and not necessarily that a presence of grains was preventing that same problem?

My last dog was spent 2 years in digestive decline before passing away with skin issues the entire time. Im not trying to be an ass about the food, but im also skeptical of any “science” provided by the same big companies that stand to benefit. As we are looking for our next dog I’d like to learn more about optimal canine food

Not every problem in dogs is food related. In fact, most illnesses have nothing to do with diet. These companies do benefit from selling food. It's their business. But this science is some of the best and only research that is done concerning diets. Where do you think the money for research comes from?
