I don't really think I'll need them, however I'm more concerned about the CHP/DOT requirements when driving up in the mountains.

I like to know that also... I guess you can but snow cables probably be better. Have you called nitto tires?

Not much room to put them on when you start turning. At least in the front. The control arm is really close as well as the body mount and front bumper. I guess it would all depend on the clearances you have. I would probably just use them for the rear and keep it in 2wd If I had to use them. I have a set that used to fit my old OEM tires. But they won’t fit my new size. I’ve never been stopped though. I’ve always been waived through, but if I was in a car or non-4 x 4 they always made me put them on.

Maybe just look into some cables. I can see those may fit.

As long as you are 4wd, I believe that covers you for the CHP/DOT requirements.

Thanks for the responses, guys. I haven’t called Nitto yet. I figured it would be a good idea to at least get a set for the rears and keep them in the truck, just in case.

I had cables on my Fords. They was easy on the tires. 15 whtrd is right about the the front tires. Didn’t even think about that. Great eye

I've always been waived through. But if you really feel like putting them on our owner's manual says Do not install tire chains on the front tires. Just for your references

I would check the CHP/DOT requirements before doing anything. Maybe there are exceptions depending on size, brand, and type of truck. Seems ridiculous to me that chains would be required, maybe you just have to carry them. Then again, I live in VA and haven't even seen chains in a very long time.

Once you go black you never go back.
Why can’t you run chains on the back tires and not have it 4wd also?

Depends on your state. Here in CO we have Code 15 and Code 16 Alerts. Under a Code 16 chains don't have to be carried or used with 4X4 capable vehicles with "adequate" tires. Can't hurt to buy a set and stow them away. I have some that I bought in 2004 and have never had to use them.

Does anyone know where to get tire cables for 275/65/18 tire? I've done some quick searches for this size but it usually results in chains, not cables.

I'm one of the 2wd guys that usually has 1 weekend / year that I need to carry chains/cables in the Sierra's. The few times I've had to put chains on it felt like the whole truck was going to rattle apart.

I've had trouble finding chains or cables for my 295/70 18 tires. Op for whats its worth, I've been snowed in a few times last time being at June Mountain last Feb over super bowl weekend. Cal trans and CHP had to escort us down the 395 until Mammoth. I asked them both if we needed chains (which I didnt) and he looked at my tires and said no you're good as long as you're 4WD and theres a MS marking on your sidewall. I have Toyo MT's but as long as your tires are rated properly and you have 4wd you should be good!

One of the reasons I didn’t want to switch to ridge Grapplers. The exos are snow rated and CHP is good with them. Just couldn’t find the exos in the size I needed.
