hate to beat a dead horse but did anyone ever get this resolved ?
got up this morning and mine did the same thing. truck started fir like 2-3 seconds then died
turn the key again and truck will turn over but not start release key and truck is still turning over until you turn the key to the off position.
I had it happen like this about 2 years ago and just unconnected the battery and all has been good till now.

Mine is doing it also. I am going to try and check the vacuum. It has been doing it over the last few days more frequently.

Mine is doing as well, with more and more frequency the last 2 days. Going to check the vacuum this weekend.

Same problem....., 2008 Tundra w 165,000 miles, this has happened 5 times in 2 years, always after it sat for 15-30 minutes, if I wait for an hour it starts fine. Did anyone figure this out yet.

May want to start a new thread... eitherway I would suggest getting your battery tested. Something else you can try is wiggling the ground terminal... there is probably a reason Toyota slams the terminals to the bottom as they tend to loosen their connection with vibration.... stalling is sometimes related to the battery, believe it or not

Flex fuel?? You swapped in a flex fuel?? You may be in a world of shit if you did, since you may require an ECU flash due to a TSB on the ffv.. highly doubt Toyota will want to do it for free, you may need to pay for the flash, but again, they may not want to if it's a Frankenstein due to liability.

Mine was 2 issues. First, one of the starter bolts backed out and the other was loose. It was on a bind because trying to start it at an angle. I changed it out and it was still having some trouble starting and idling high. Changed out the coolant temperature sender, the 2 wire one, and cleaned the MAF. Has been working great ever since. You have a different engine though, but still the same working theory I believe.

Because of this behavior, I have a blank non-programmed key cut for all my cars as my hidden “locked myself out” key.

All the times I needed it was when I left my keys in the ignition (newer cars won’t let you do this) or on the seat or floor.

Worst nightmare is to drop my key ring down a sewer drain, like the guy in the TV commercial sneezing and dropping his phone down the sidewalk grate. My sphincter tightens a little every time I see that commercial.

This is an old, old post, but having just experienced this in 2021, I thought I’d share a success story.

Skipping the play by play, I removed the mass air flow sensor located downstream from the top of the air filter housing top. Using CRC ‘maf’ sensor spray (yes, there is a product suited just for this part), I liberally sprayed it down. Once reassembled, the result was night and day.

Like a halogen bulb, avoid greasy hands on the sensor parts; just hold the base.

Just for shits & giggles, I did clean up the throttle body, essentially the butterfly valve and valve seat. I used the same CRC spray, but evaporating so quickly, a different cleaner would have been better. The only grime was on the periphery of the round valve flap (the butterfly as I call it) and the seating area of the housing. Did this help? Probably not, but it felt good to take things apart.
