Pfft. Why? All she has to do is ask him to, and he gets all excited.

    True.

@War Machine , have you got your marching orders on how to go about the chrome on the sides? Any other plans for it after that?

Not yet. Aside from plasti-dip I’m not sure what options there are.

Checked into the badges on the lift gate and they aren’t for sale in black yet.

Interesting. I’d rather just remove it, but she wants to try and make it black. I think it would cheapen the look somewhat. Not sure how the smoked chrome would look as opposed to gloss black.

My friend who’s a paint and body guy swears he has a technique that works to paint the chrome. He’s the one who painted the grill and mirror caps for me. He asked why I bought new ones and didn’t just let him try to paint them.

I do have the OEM grill I could try this on....

Yeah, I thought it was a neat alternative. Even if you did it and hated it, plastidip would still be an option.

I told her to join here, but she’d rather just live vicariously through my posts. She keeps asking what everyone is saying about her truck though. She’s been really hoping everyone likes it.

Might try it on her Platinum badges. She doesn’t want those removed either, and is pissed that it’s pretty much the only badge you can’t get in black.

Anyone who doesn't like her Sequoia, needs their damn head examined. It is definitely a sweet ride.

Too late. You have about twenty in laws that’ll be there for thanksgiving, so better get off the internet and cook some turkeys.

hey, um, mr detailer man, you have some black schmutz on the front end of both your trucks. thought you were better than that?

or three. the cost curve is exponential... :annoyed::bananadead:

btw, i love the sequoias. we had about 200k on an '03 which i traded when i picked up the tundra. solid truck. i had debated keeping it and building it out but the 4.6 engine was just about worthless in something that size.

Haha that black schmutz gets on every license plate. Haven’t found a solution yet.

I don’t know how old your girls are, but I’d been working under the assumption that the cost dropped off when they turn 18. I was mistaken.

We really do love the Sequoia. It’s our second one. I see a ton of the first gen Sequoias on the road still, and almost all of them are in great shape.

maybe ask @COMiamiFan. he's pretty good at giving advice as long as it's about using the mf'ing search...

    16, 14 and 11. i don't think the cost drops off until 25. maybe.

Not sure if this has already been sorted out, but I am pretty sure the 2nd gen tundra ones work on the Sequoias without any problems... I know @Jbtaco2002 has some pocket style flares on his rig.

Ohh and this is a good looking Sequoia... soo when is the lift coming?!!?

Hey man, I have been following this thread from day 1 and love how the build turned out! I posted my build as well (of my old 08) and would love to get your take on the outcome. At any rate, I plastidipped all of my emblems since they are chrome on the platinum model and I think they came out pretty good. The key is to do about 5-7 light coats. Initially, I caked it on the "platinum" emblem and was unable to peel the excess without removing the coating on the emblem. After trying it again (the right way), the result is great. Also, when I bought my truck it had a 1.5" rub rail on the doors. I was able to remove it with heat and goof off so if they still mount the trim on the doors the same way, you should be able to remove your chrome the same way. I'd imagine if you can remove it intact it would sell to someone looking to make theirs look like a 2018+. BTW, how much did you pay to have your grill surround and mirrors painted? I have mine wrapped in pearl vinyl atm which is pretty close to a match but have been thinking about having it painted. Thanks, and good luck with your build!

Nice! We have the opposite color scheme to your pair. Love your wife's new ride! It is exactly what I would do if we started over. The black Sequoia is way too much work.

A lift isn’t going to happen on this one. Mrs. Machine is vertically challenged, so she won’t appreciate that.

Thanks for the compliments, and yours looks really sweet as well!

My choice would be to remove the Platinum badges and rub strip as well, but she wants to keep them. She does want them in black though. If I don’t find another option, I’ll be giving plasti-dip a try.

As for the price of paint, I actually have a friend who works for a paint and body shop. He only charged $80.00, but I gave him an even $100.00. He said if I’d run it through his shop, it would’ve only been $130.00.
I did get a quote from another shop also, and they wanted $250.00 to do it. Another member here had told me he’d have charged around $200.00 at his shop, but he’s not local. It all depends on your local market, but it doesn’t look like it’s a big expense regardless.
