I have thought about it, but seems like a lot of work when I wanna do small duration smokes. So like the convenience of fire and forget.

Just a tip dont use bacon. Bacon provides and insulation layer, keeps the skin soft.

Id inject with Tony Cacheres creole butter, butter or mayo under skin, and whatever dry rub outside. Cook 250 to 275 4 to 5 hours

I did put butter under the skin. I’ve never heard of creole butter until this week. Gonna have to look it up.

Soft skin don’t bother me as I don’t eat it. Now the bacon on the other hand :D

I spent the money 10 years ago for the Primo Oval XL, can do 4 butts at once or 6 racks of baby backs, for smaller cooks use the divider plate, D plates for indirect. American made and the bomb.

BBQ Guru temp controller and it is set and forget, keeps temp better than my oven.

I cleaned the Traeger today and have it ready for tomorrow. I think I am planning 7 hours for the turkey. The app and instructions seem to think it will be done in 4. Kinda think thats a typo. Plus its supposed to be 34 degrees tomorrow morning. Going to smoke till internal of 110 then finish it off at 375.

Get one. The wiring harness on the controller had a pin that wasn't fully seated. Customer service was awesome. I'll provide some more details later.

Just found this today, Dicks has everything 25% off. Got the Camp Chef FTG600 4 burner griddle for $88 off or $262. Buy tonight, do store pickup and they will hold it for 4 days.

Posting it everywhere as this is the cheapest I have seen this whole year.....

This might be a stupid question but I'm new to the smoking world. Is it ok to smoke a "stuffed" pork roast? I usually brown em and make a gravy in a black iron dutch oven but I wanna try something different.

Yes you can. Put a pan underneath to catch any drippings you can use to make the gravy.

How well does that jacket/blanket work? My GMG sucks the pellets in the winter and I've been debating getting one.

I have one on my camp chef and it's the best $$ spent. You do have to remove over 350* or you may damage the magnets that hold it to the smoker.

it is great. I can’t honestly say how it has helped, but it feels like the temp swings are less and pellet consumption is down. I do think it’s worth it.

I haven’t removed it since I got it last year. Dunno if high heat damages it, but I’ve done quite a few 600 degree pizza cooks with it on

Thanks. I'm just used to smoking ribs in the summer and barely using any pellets over six hours or so, then I put a brisket on at 225 last week around 10pm and woke up around 3am with my low pellet alarm going off! It got down into the 30s that night, but it was super windy so I'm sure it was in the 20s with wind chill. Anyway, it seems like those blankets get good reviews, so I might have to invest in one...

I’m wondering if building a 3 walled structure to go around the cooker would be good for shielding it from the wind?
