Coming along. That's a lot of work. And that's a sweet Scout? plow truck in the driveway.

Thanks, it is a lot of work but it's coming out really nice so far. The trickiest part was figuring out how to start so that we were going to run straight across the roof. We knew the eaves and gables were not straight, so we couldn't just line up with them or we would have ended up really crooked. We ended up stringing a line from one end of the ridge to the other and following that. Worked out great.

Yeah, that Scout is great. I bought it for $50 about 12 years ago and I often think about how much money it has saved me over the years not paying for plowing to the tune of $30-$40 per plow.

It has the 196 CID 4 cylinder that runs great. It's missing the driver's door, so it's a little drafty in there when plowing, but I just bundle up and count the money I'm saving. I had to Mcguyver the fuel pump when I bought it because the mechanical pump was shot. A new one would have cost $150; 3 times what I paid for the Scout. The auto parts store had a universal, low pressure electric pump for $40, so I got that and a 6 gallon boat tank which rides on the passenger seat. Bolted the pump to the dash, ran some rubber fuel line through the firewall to the carb, wired up a switch on the dash for the pump, and away I go. Looks like it's going to get a workout tomorrow. The snow is piling up fast out there.IMG_20190119_115747.jpg

My electricians got the last few under mount led lights installed on these cantilevered white mahogany stairs. All the tedious steps to get here are well worth seeing how excited my clients are. Waiting on the 176 lb chandelier to arrive to mount over the main stairway landing.

Our builder has nearly finished clearing and grading the land our new house and detached garage will sit on. Our property is connected to my wife's grandmother's and her parent's but there was a heavy tree line in between them so we had the builder also cut a 30' wide path down the hill so we can walk the nearly 100 acres whenever we want. The builder is pulling permits this week with plans to get construction going before Christmas. By mid- to late-April, my wife will have her farmhouse that she has always wanted and I'll have my 70x30 garage in place.

I hate to pry, but may I ask what something like this costs? We're leaning towards asphalt for a circular driveway we're having put in on our new house which we want to extend down a walking trail going out our backyard. Thanks!

Based on the responses it was pricey. One estimate was 80-100K

Umm... I haven’t ever charged enough to make someone sell their soul. :D

I only work within an hours drive of my area though. Fortunately there is an abundance of work out there.

It was close to the six digit mark. We had an “L” shaped area we also paved that was included that was about 200x26 and 28x85.

Our FROG has an 11 foot ceiling. For some reason whoever built it up a light fixture over the stairs instead of the floor.i had to make a work platform. But at least I also have too stain the window trim and hang a curtain rod.

I’m on the final planning stages to having all my timbers and steel plates made for one of my barn projects. I’ve always loved timber frame construction! This will be a good sized timber covered entrance. A7A5B573-2AA3-468A-AA35-8928AE2EEA9E.jpg 5A49EDBF-3E77-45D3-A257-4E0E254970A8.jpg

I love post and beam construction. A lot of old barns and homes that I grew up in and around were built that way. I built a 16x16ft "sugar shack" shed about 15 years ago using rough sawn posts and beams. I cut a ton of mortise and tenon joints as well as half lap joints to put it all together with a few nails and a bunch of wooden pegs.
I learned my way around a chisel doing that shed and how important it was to keep it sharp, to this day I have that chisel set and use it often. It took a long time but it was a lot of fun doing it the old way. I wish I had photos to share.

Are you this creative in all your designs, or do you use a designer to do much of your work? Interior and exterior LOL.
Either way, hats off for being soooo damn creative, or hats off for hiring the right people to design! LOL! :D

Oh, and finally. The day has come! The doors are officially on as of an hour ago, and I can acid stain and seal the interior concrete. Getting closer! Only 17 months and counting!

This project was designed and planned by myself. I have a great base of trades that make all my ideas come to fruition. I have and do work with designers on other projects but this one is all mine. Lol I love to create and design new ideas I haven’t seen done yet. I like putting several different skilled craftsmen together to achieve one end goal. That’s always fun to me.

Your garage looks great! I bet your excited to get to use the new space before the snow hits.

Crazy! That sounds like such a kick ass career! I’m sure nerve racking more than not trying to coordinate, but fun. :D

Yes, super excited. We’re hosting a fairly large Christmas party this weekend so I’m going to be emptying my garage into the barn starting tomorrow.

I spent the rest of the night installing some 12v lights....finally finished. o_O
