I'm headed to VT next month. Going to Smuggs. Never rode on an East Coast mountain before. I'm used to the West Coast and Rockies. What should I expect?

    Everything.

pow, hockey rinks, mud, granular, loose granular (read: ice cubes), corduroy etc.., and that’s just on the ground.

we have a saying: “there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad attitudes and bad gear”. So pack your mittens.

make sure your edges are sharp if you’re riding steeps.

in short, it could be the best trip you’ve ever taken or it could make you question why you even ride in the 1st place. I’d bet on both.

I haven't ridden in 4 years due to life in FL. Just stoked to get out there again. We will be there during the weekday. We are staying on property. I have my boots. I'll be renting a board and bindings.

Ugh, terrible snow pattern for the Oregon and Washington cascades right now. Future weather models still show a snooze fest, dry and mild. Typically November and December are the wetter months for the PNW. California Sierras are getting the goods right now. I'm headed to Mt. Bachelor 12/13 and things are looking pretty dismal. Hoping for a pattern change soon.

I rode Switch bindings a long time ago and I'm going to give the Burton Step Ons a try tomorrow.

I rode the old Burton step ins till I needed new boots. I think I was the last person that still used them. I loved that setup. Never had an issues riding them 75-80 days per season. I’m waiting to hear some feedback on the new ones.

I loved my Switch setup. My wife and I used them until our boots were toast. We then moved on to Burton bindings.

Third season of the Step Ons and as it's been, there isn't that much product left. I tried on the Ion and Photon boots this afternoon and bought the Ion bundle. The Ion is the stiffest boot.

We have the Ikon pass. Could have done without the price increase and the paying for your kid part.

Looking at this thread brings back some memories. I haven't been snowboarding in years because I have bad knees and back. First year snowboarding was 1987 where the only place they allowed snowboarding was Teton Village in Jackson Hole Wyoming.

Started out with a Burton Elite 140.

    Rare-Vintage-1987-Burton-Elite-140-Blue.jpg

Since my brothers decided not to teach me how to snowboard (too busy chasing girls on he slopes) I went with lessons from Chris Pappas. First thing he told me while getting ready to shred down the hill while smoking a big fat one was to throw away the Burton and get a Sims. Took me a few years but ended up buying a Sims Terry Kidwell 1635.

    kidwell891.jpg

Anyway I sure miss knee deep powder blasting through the trees.

I just picked up a splitboard-will get some bindings, get it set up and hit the backcountry. Looking forward to it. Anyone else like to tour and find the powder stashes?

Check out Corbetts Couloir, great YouTube video about the King and Queen of Corbetts. It's a fun annual competition for pros jumping in to the couloir.

I used to see a lot more Sims boards than I do now. Haven't ridden one before myself.

I love it I've been through 3 sets of bindings on it and it really is past its prime now but I still love it. It's super narrow compared to the boards nowadays. In fact the new style burton bindings I have on it now are almost too wide for it as they are designed.for the new wider boards.

Looks beautiful. Had a few inches of fresh here in Utah also and it got super warm in the afternoon. That's when I went up, got foggy right at the end. Glad you're getting out there!

I miss Riding. I broke my wrist the second time out, finished out the rest of the day went home and mom took me to to hospital. GNU Temple Cummins 162, Bent Metal Bindings, Vans Boa was my Fav set up. And I always had a Backup pair of Boots. Who Am I kidding I had backup Boots Board and Bindings. A bunch of Lib Tech's for the east coast ICE. I use to work at a Switch Sk8 and Snow, Newark DE. before Jim sold it. We sponsored Danny Kass back in the day. Vid - Full Metal Edges that coffin board was sick. I still have my last two set ups."holy shit was that an inverted cab 1080 with a mellon grab, that bitches crazy!"

Thanks for sharing that classic! That guy can spin. Yeah, I recently moved out of the E. Coast to get back to the mountains. I've got a Rossignol 159 and just picked up a Voile split-board for getting into the backcountry. But the best part is that my kids are getting out and enjoying it. In a couple years I probably won't be able to keep up with them at all. Kids are 18, 12 and 11.
