I just ordered the 34071 short deck rail system. My question is - what have you all used to cut the spray on bed liner in the mounting holes to get to the threads. I know I can use a tap. But what is your secret method to clean the holes without messing up the threads. That bed liner is some hard stuff. I appreciate all advice. I am sure it has been asked before but I can’t find a post on it.

If you know where the holes are, you could probably drill a small pilot hole to get started. I thought someone said that you can clear the hole with an X-acto knife.....??? Line-X is harder than Rhino lining I think, but others that have had this issue will chime in.

Correct. Use a blade and cut it off and it will peel off like a scab.

Thanks for that solution. I am waiting on the rails so I can now get busy with the knife.

I actually used an 8mm tap and it cut the liner material right out of the hole. The rails mounted right up and torqued the screws to 66.5 inch pounds. I had that torque wrench over 30 years and it’s the first time I used it? Never know when you’ll need a tool.

    Hi Guys-

I just purchased a 2020 SR5 CM with the spray-on bedliner from the port. I asked the dealership to install the deck rail system since I saw that where the threads would be were sprayed over. They ordered the part but when they went to install it, the tech says they couldn't do it because with SR5 that have the spray on bedliner, the threaded holes are not there. I thought what????? They said on previous years you could just back tap it. But not in the 2020. Anyone have experience with this with this situation? Thanks!

That would be new to me. I was pretty sure all the beds come ready to accept the rails. I would take a closer look it’s possible they are just filled in with liner material.

To anyone else that wants to get their bed sprayed, you could leave some screws in the threads if you’re worried about them getting filled or put a little grease just inside the hole so the material won’t stick.

That was my thought too, but I'm not familiar with the 2020's. Can't imagine they'd be any different though.

I’m kind of thinking the dealer gave up too easy. Gave it a quick look and saw no holes and moved on. Probably was the oil change guy LOL

Thanks guys! Maybe I’ll just drill some small pilot holes to see if the threads are there. Truck just rolled off the lot so it’s stock and frills but love that Cement color!

@Mr.Blonde. Lol. Death by 1000 tiny prick holes. I’ll order the part and line it up based on the pin inserts holes. Should give me an idea of where that threaded holes “should be”. @SuperWhite20 - sounds like you did this on your 2020?

Cut just a bit off the threads of a screw with a grinder. The sharp edge will clean the threads.

Let us know what you find out. I just purchased a 2020 DC and was planning on getting the deck rails soon. Thanks!

P.S. Great color choice! Love the cement. Don't see any here in Alaska.

Should be right in these white spots. I would use a nail or ice pick type tool, and poke around.

I used a 7/16 drill bit. It is big enough that it made a cut where the bolt hole is but couldn't reach the threads and didn't damage them. You can feel locations with your finger, there is enough flex in the bed liner spray.

    Hi Guys-

Appreciate all the feedback. So just like @SuperWhite20 ’s experience - the threaded holes are there on my 2020 SR5. I just felt around for soft spots and used a thick needle at first to test. It went straight through. Thanks @Mr.Blonde for the pic. I guess you were also spot on about the dealership tech guys giving up lol.

I just used a 8x1.25 bottoming tap to clear the liner spray out of the holes. Threads are there! Installed mine with no trouble in a 2020 SR5. Then, went on Amazon and ordered the PFC TACOMA tie downs. They are black and look great in the bed. Also ordered 4 mini PFC Tie downs. No issues, all looks great and as good as the aluminum ones that came with the rails.

I’m not real impressed with my dealer techs. Six times for tire balance! Three tires later it still shakes. Tech puts wheel weights on top of old weight tape still on the tire!

Glad I saw this thread. Someone at work sold there 2014 Tundra and gave me there deck rails. I didn’t see any holes. But I know they should be there.

$195 plus tax. If you order from Sparksparts, it’s $175 but shipping will bump it to $200.

Unfortunately, I can't really utilize SparkParts because shipping to Alaska is redonk (see below)! Also tried ordering a TRD Pro grill and hood bulge and shipping was $400+.

The sole dealer up here has a monopoly too.

Amazon - I went by the part number. One came up but then there were three other dealers listing it below. It has been a few months so it may have gone up. It’s Like PT278-34071. I mistakenly said $137.00 I was $196.19. I think $137.00 was what I told my wife.....
