If you don't want to drill holes you could use led modules or something like this. https://www.amazon.com/Ampper-Waterproof-Underglow-Offroad-Underbody/dp/B01H7FGO46/

    Maybe?

Pulled the interior and detailed it, surprisingly easy to get everything out thankfully, only got a picture of the center console parts out.

Then pulled the charcoal filter, 145K miles on it so I figured what the heck, what’s a little more air.

Interior is set, time for some full on paint correction with my DA and 3D speed and then fluid filming the frame. Getting there, hopefully the 5100’s and tires will be on by early next week - just need to decide if I want to run Spydertrax spacers or if I can live with a little rub on the UCA?

Really nice looking set of lights. I'm thinking the 6 piece set, 1 at each wheel well and 1 under each side midway between the wheel wells, and of course in Blue. I imagine they can be wired into the remote door lock/security system?

Should be possible. The trick would be just to tap into something else that turns on when you want them to turn on. I think the dome light and cargo light come on when I hit unlock. Not sure about all years/ models though.

@KarmaKannon Yes it would be the cargo light over the dome light. It is unlawful to have the undercarriage lights on when driving because the authorities have deemed it a distraction, so I wouldn't want someone in my truck to inadvertently turn them on when turning on the dome light. The cargo light is set to only go on when I unlock or open the door, or so I believe - have to check that. I might also want a set of 2 or 4 lights, in white, for the engine bay and be manually operated, a glaring omission of the '02 Tundra in my estimation.

Sorry, been buy playing video games since it was 35mph winds and couldn't work on ANY vehicle. But yeah, I'd tap the wires going into the door lights. With the low amperage each strip would pull I don't see a problem. Something like this should be fine:

    Screenshot_20191130-222412_Chrome.jpg

Yes, people will bitch. But we use them all the time in fluorescent lights on 120 and 277 volt and they work fine. Just like any part, proper installation is the key. With .35 amps per light you wont have a problem with them. I've got a master electrician license to back that up if anyone wants to argue. :curls:

Footwell light might work. Mine are constant on with a manual switch, but I like the unlock idea.

Drove the truck with the new headunit and man o man the sound quality improvement is 100% better. Set the vehicle type to an Toyota IM in the settings a tweaked the mid and high a bit and the system sounds great for stock speakers. HD radio is nice and the Bluetooth works perfectly.

Now I just need to upgrade the door speakers and find a under seat sub I like.

Door speakers on the reg and access cabs are 6.5” correct?

Not to argue, Master:bowdown:, but I was taught as a young man that these type of connectors were prone to cutting wire strands in the wires they tap into. Are you saying this is not true, or that the damage is so minimal as to not matter? I do like the speed with which they connect to existing system(s).

They should never cut all the way through if the proper one is used. The only issue I’ve ever seen is cheap ones coming loose from vibrations. I only use 3m wire taps

    I'll argue :D
They may be fine in a dry climate but here in the rust belt they're a recipe for corroded wires even used on interior wiring. I use adhesive lined heat shrink connectors for the wiring I do on vehicles.

Unfortunately not. It's actually not something that's easy to see, the corrosion starts at the splice point and runs back into the wiring.

In my youth I used them on a set of fog lights and ended up replacing about 8 inches of wire before I found bare copper.

If you're set on using them they do offer some with dielectric grease inside that would be a better choice.

Yeah I think I got the idea from you. I've actually had 3M carbon fiber on my wish list for a while. I plan on sprucing up the interior with it but never occured to me that I could cover that chrome strip. If I end up hating it inside, I can always take it off.

What lord said. If you get the proper size there's no problem. Unless....

This is a good point. It's something we don't have to worry about here. If this was the case I'd do the same, bust out the solder and y-slice that sucker then heat shrink it.

Besides chemistry, electrical engineering is among my true weak points in the learning department. Now I fixated on those LED lights for my engine bay enough that insomnia took over and I've spent the night trying to figure out the wire size to match it up with a switch and harness that caught my eye:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XW8ZV7G/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?smid=A29IIQOCACUMWF&psc=1

I kind of got stuck on either 18 gauge because of the LED lights small current draw, or 16 gauge because the picture showed a blue connector that I have come to believe is a standard color for that size wire. Could I be MORE confused? I don't think so, but I'll try and get a grip on it if someone could clue me in on a little electrical theory or dismiss this idea that the color standard I alluded to is a color standard. That, of course will just confuse me more until I get my feet under me. So if someone wants to throw me a line, by all means please do. :annoyed::tumbleweed:

Electrical is a HUGE field to learn. Even when it comes to vehicle electrical I'm not 100%. I just know how to do the work and the theory of it working. Basically 16 guage is good for around 18 amps, 18g is good for 15A. Wire connector color indicates what size it's good for. Yellow is 10-12, blue is 14-16, red is 18-22. Wire nuts sorta fall into color code, but I wouldnt use them in a vehicle. I like male/female spades to provide a "quick disconnect". But there's multiple kinds of connectors, too many to mention here...

Alright boys. Here is a hand models attempt at electrical work. Zzzzzzttttt!!!

Will this set up work? The LED system is made for TVs to plug into USB port for power. 2 separate 2’ strips. I’ll need to cut some wires. I know this is made for indoors, but not worried about it. I have waterproofing plans using adhesives and shrank wraps and don’t want to bog down there. I’m assuming the truck door wires we are tapping are grounded.

Just need help wiring. I think the USB 2’ section (labeled drivers side) with the plug will be easiest? The other 2’ section going on the other door I need help at the connection. There are 4 wires out of LED and only 2 wires in truck door. See blue HELP! picture.

Only want white light. No plans to use remote control. Should I start over or continue on...

@bmf4069 Ah so...I'm not too far off on the standardization of those colors then. And even 18 gauge is overkill with its 15 amps, and I sensed it, but got hung up on the seemingly larger wire in the harness needing a close match when terminating at the LED lights. Then, again, I believe it should be okay going from big to little as long as it is downstream and not the other way around - correct? But, if the harness is sporting 16 gauge to the LED lights and the lights are 20 gauge, will those spade connectors be able to deal with the difference in size? And then there is the switch, which I believe is a smaller gauge than the harness, where does size fit in, or does it matter much (it's not carrying any current load of any size, is it?)?

Last questions for the day, as I have to get away from this computer before I do go Marbles, right Fred?:pccoffee::der:

Skip what you've got. Those LEDs are meant to run on 5v hence the USB connectors. You'll either fry them or they'll burn out quick.

    These are what you want.
    https://www.amazon.com/Alued-Flexib...rds=2ft+led+strip&qid=1575218044&sr=8-19&th=1

You're fine stepping down wire gauge for low draw applications. For the 16 to 20 gauge you can use the 16 gauge female spade and the 20 gauge male spade together.
Correct on the switch is doesn't carry more than a few milliamps to trip the relay.

You can make those work, just need to get that usb powered. The 4 wires in there tells me it's 2 circuits. And the door light wires will be a switched hot/ground. Also, they make outdoor led strips that are coated. I'm not to up to date on the kits as the ones we use are for houses.

Going from big to small wire is fine. The connection part of a spade comes in different sizes, so as long as that part matches up it'll work. It depends on if the switch is turning on a relay or the lights themselves. If it's a relay, it has very low amp draw and small is ok. If it runs the lights themselves then it gets the full draw of the lights and should be sized accordingly.

Yeah, that's the good stuff. I just have the standard ones in my van.

Yeah, I’ve looked at them for a couple years only to realize that they are way over priced and none actually made for our trucks. Figured I would have to drill a hole or two to make it work but couldn’t pass on the price. Happy now
