Did anyone ever tried to replace their DC center console parts with CM console parts to fit the it with air ducts and vents for the rear? Or do you have to replace the whole console to achieve it?

    Thanks!

There are vents under the seats. Could those be routed to the cm console i wonder?

I have a parts list somewhere of what's needed to do it. Looks like about 315 dollars or so. As near as I can tell the ductwork is molded already into the center console. You need to open up the ductwork at the front and make the connection there, then you need buy the rear face of the center console which has the openings for the vents, the vents themselves, and the bezel. Keep in mind you'll be losing the cup holders if you do that. While I haven't personally done it, I did do the research and it looks very easily doable.

That will be great when you find it. It gets hot back there.

Was the parts list you mentioned ever posted? If not, any suggestions on how I might assemble such a parts list myself? I haven't used the techinfo.toyota.com site before, but was thinking that it might be a good place to compare how the DC and CM A/C systems differ.

    Cheers

I was wondering about this for my dog that rides back there. He runs hot sleeps on the AC vents at home .

Was anyone ever able to successfully do this? Curious on the parts list and the difficulty involved.

I know this is an older thread and I am a new member, but YES you can add rear A/C to the double cabs, I have done it.

You need the center console with vents (obviously) and the factory air duct that runs from the dash to the center console ducts.

The attachment point for the duct is there under the dash, you will need to cut the oval out of the bottom of the blower box.

Once you get under there, you will see exactly what you need to cut. It is in an awkward location to cut, but the plastic is fairly soft.

the factory duct part number is: 58861-0C030

No problem! I was researching for myself and figured I’d just go for it after I saw no one had really confirmed it was possible. With a Dremel tool to cut the HVAC box and razor blade for the carpet, it’s done in a few minutes. All mounting holes are present in the floor as well.

Do you have any pictures of the final result? Do you have the part list you will need. I'm pissed Toyota decided to save a few bucks and not install it in the back. My boys hate that they don't have vents in my truck.

What you’ll need is the factory console with rear A/C vents, I got mine locally at an LKQ (https://www.lkqcorp.com/) and the part number I listed above for the ducting piece.

Make sure you look at the LKQ photographs and verify the console they have listed has vents. Also, try to get one out of a vehicle with no broken glass to minimize damage from the elements and glass scratches.

Shipping isn’t cheap, but I was able to pick mine up at the local warehouse.

I actually use my cup holders and the kids never complain about the air temp in the back :notsure:

That being said, I can see the viability in this little project.

I’m in Arizona, so I guess it just makes me feel a little less guilty having the kids in the back now that there is some airflow. Especially with a black truck.

That’s one of the reasons I traded my double cab in for a crew cab. And THE main reason I got rid of the 4Runner. No functional rear ac vents is so dumb.

    Just for information:

    Average Used Console: $200-350
    58861-0C030: $50-75

You’ll need (4) 10mm Head M6 Bolts in 1” length for the console, this is a typical Toyota size and if you’re like me, you may have some laying around.

You’ll re-use the two body clips holding the original trim piece under the A/C Controls for the new console to mount to the same locations and you’ll need (1) additional identical body clip to affix the ducting to the floor.

I'm going to pull my console panels this weekend and look at the internal box. If the DC and the CM have the same box, it looks like all that is needed is the duct, bolts, and the rear panel that has the vents. This would eliminate swapping out the entire console assembly.

I had a jump seat, so for me, the entire console needed to be swapped.

Maybe one number for the console with the vents and one number for the one without?

*Assuming those parts are sold as an assembly

Yes I noticed that too. Maybe I'll try to take a peek at work tomorrow since it's slow.
