I have a 2020 tundra with the factory remote start and it has the connect service remote start (using the app on your phone. When i open the door engine shuts off. I know thats how it is designed.. Is there any way to stop that. I have been searching for 4 days and nothing. I was just wondering if there any bypass. I know i can get the 12v solutions remote start. But i would like to use the app to start my truck (toyota app).

    Welcome from NY.
Don't believe that you can alter the factory remote.

They still haven’t fixed that crap where the engine dies when you open door?
Hate that on my tundra and wife’s sequoia. No other manufacture does it that way...

So I just learnt that the factory 2020 fob you press lock 2 times within 2 seconds then hold lock for 3 seconds and it'll start the engine. No add on remote start needed. This sometimes messes up my app into thinking engine is running even when it's not however

    Does anyone know if this
Does this only work if you have Remote Connect set up? Just bought a 2020 Pro last night and I was able to do this at the dealership, but it won’t do it now that I have it home - I haven’t been able to set up Remote Connect yet because the app in my truck is greyed out so I can’t enter the activation code.

You should get 3 months at least free of remote connect. I entered my vin to activate. Haven't tried the 3x lock without having the remote connect subscription though

It just started working for some reason, not sure why - and I don’t have Remote Connect set up - I went through the whole setup process but when I go to enter the activation code in the truck, the apps are all greyed out. I’ll just run to the dealership tomorrow and get it sorted out.

I'm pretty sure I didn't do anything in my truck. All done through phone app and it references truck via the vin you input. I'm in Canada if that makes any difference

Yah, I did all of the stuff through the app and scanned the VIN, but it is making me open up the remote connect authorization app on the truck and put in an authorization code.

Weird. You can always hit the button on the roof and it'll put you through to a call centre and a real person will set it up for you.

I'd love to be able to find a way to disable to engine kill feature when opening the door. When you have the engine running to heat up or cool down the interior, it defeats the purpose when the engine turns off.

It asks if it's an emergency when you hit it. Say no and it gives you lots of options

Cant you just bypass the door switch on the door frame? When you open your door, the switch triggers the interior light, I'd be surprised if there's not a way to jumper the switch leads, your door when opened should never trigger the switch if it's bypassed. Just a thought.

Just be careful you don't push the EJECT button right next to it, it can be rough if you haven't put your parachute on yet.

Thought I'd give my two cents! Depending on your trim level in your 2020 Tundra - and provided your Tundra is equipped with an "Audio Plus" or "Audio Premium" head unit - your factory remote will remote start the truck for THREE YEARS (Audio Plus) and TEN YEARS (Audio Premium) from the date the vehicle is reported as a retail sale ("RDR'd") by the dealer. This is irrespective of whether you set up "Remote Connect" or not.

If and when you elect to pay the $80/yr to activate "Remote Connect" (after the complimentary six months or one year, depending on when you bought the vehicle and how Toyota felt that particular day :D) the fob also becomes active. Some people only want remote start in the winter; their fob will only work while their subscription is active (after the complimentary trial period).

RE bypassing the door sensor: The vehicle will shut down if you open the hood, put your foot on the brake, unlock the vehicle, put keys in the ignition (or door, I think)... Lots of different sensors. I'm sure it could be done but would get complicated.

    Hope this helps!

My understanding is this is a safety feature to prevent the vehicle from being stolen out of your driveway while it is running.

This is a real thing? This is horrific. I can't imagine dealing with a vehicle with a 'feature' like that. Absolutely disgusting.

The dumbest feature and that's why I went with aftermarket, Fortin EVO One. The door will lock and then remote start. The only time engine dies when activated by remote start is if you press the break pedal without the key in the ON position.

Yes, it's a Toyota "Safety" feature to turn off when you open the door but I believe it's only if you have the Push button start
