I can't really tell how it works but as a general rule I never use a jack as a jack stand

There is some chance that the seals in a hydraulic jack cylinder can fail suddenly, allowing a 2-3 ton vehicle chassis to crush you like an egg without jackstands, so it's a good general rule not to EVER trust a hydraulic jack to sustain the load while you're working under.

This device appears to work like an hydraulic hoist; i.e. as the vehicle is raised by the bottle jack, a mechanical stop trails behind, falling into detents that effectively make it a jack stand, with a built-in bottle jack, that locks-in the last highest detent. To let it down, you'll have to jack it up slightly, release the mechanical stop, then let it down.

Interesting idea. They are correct about modern vehicles not having space to both jack and support. This device will do both at a single small contact patch. The only concern I would have is the weight (not an issue for you young, strong guys); floor jacks are heavy, but they have wheels for moving to the work area and positioning. Using this will help you get your daily "curls". :D

Coffee hasn't hit yet...biggest problem with these is having enough clearance at the lift point to get them under. I need something for a Honda Insight, which probably has 6" ground clearance at the frame lift points.
