ok Im one of those vehicle owners that hear and feel everything , I currently have a 2015 trd off road with 98000 miles on it , I've noticed the engine sometimes has what seems like an upper cylinder or valve tick or noise that Im paranoid about, the oil level is good , color is like new , I do run regular 87 octane gas in the truck , I realize that not all gas is the same depending on where you buy , question is, are all the 5.7 liter engines a bit noisy? should I run some 93 octane through the truck to see if this quietens the engine? some octane boost? Am I off base thinking this may be a fuel issue? the rubber seal needs replaced on the back side of the engine compartment , its came loose , is this why the engine is louder than I think it should be? trade it asap? any help would be appreciated

No, pure gas dot org to find an ethanol free fuel station.

2.) Use a high quality oil like Shell T6 or Amsoil. Skip Mobil 1 please.

3.) 93 octane is NOT a fix, fewer people buy it, it is MORE likely to be shit fuel at ANY station you buy it at.

Are you using E85 or 10% ethanol fuel? There is a know Toyota TSB as well; the ECU struggles to configure WHICh fuel it has for the air/fuel ratio it needs to run.

Lastly, contrary to what others say here; it's NOT "normal". You don't have OCD-Tundraitis!

10% ethanol , its very subtle and not all the time , there is no noise at throttle or highway speed , its just mostly from a cold start , there are no faults , mileage is normal for a tundra , thats a good point for the 93 octane as far as fewer people buy it, there are tundra you-tubers that say the 93 octane quietened their engines but the fuel mileage was lower

The 5.7L is a bit noisy... a lot is happening at the topside. Use 87 octane...... add Lucas Upper Cylinder Treatment.....
Works quite well for me, especially when it gets cold.

Thanks, I’ve used Lucas in other engines, never really noticed any change for the better, but didn’t have any issues using it either

Find the ethanol-free station nearest your driving routes; yes, it costs more sometimes but it will return about 10% better fuel mileage. Engine runs better and you stop less for fuel.

You have to search it out, but 87 w/o ethanol is out there, and it has cheap sources too; usually a Cenex Co-operative has it the best.

Best information on this, fast? Call the biggest landscape company in your area, and ask them where they fuel up their trucks and equipment. Ethanol-free keeps their equipment running better, out of the repair shop, and making them money. They know.

If you live on a rural property with a Co-Op nearby they will likely deliver a 250 gallon above ground tank to you, and fill it with ethanol-free gas. You don't have to stop for fuel off your property except when far and away.

No matter what 87 octane fuel you use your engine will sound the same. A higher octane fuel will likely quiet it down though. This is due to the higher octane fuel not detonating. However the detonation of lower octane fuel will not hurt your engine.

Right down the street at the quick mart that pumps BP gas. Two pumps (one on either end) that pumps 87 NO ethanol. It's about $0.25 more which makes it here in central Alabama about $2.40/gallon.
