i managed to scratch my side view mirror at the gas station yesterday. real bad horizontal scratches. It's fine in the shade, but the minute the sun hits it, they reflect like crazy.
never gonna use the windshield cleaner for anything other than true glass.

kicking myself since I even have spray bottle and microfiber towel that lives in the door panel for cleaning the dash and what-not.

anyone ever tried getting scratches out of a side view mirror? what's it even made of? clearly not glass since glass shouldn't scratch so easily like it did.

am I just better off getting a new mirror glass?

oh i know, it's only a hundred bucks. but if i could potentially polish out the scratches on the cheap i'd rather save the money

I have seen glass company sand and polish scratches out of glass but i dont know if you can do that with a side mirror but they start with like 1000 wet then 1500 wet then 2000 wet sand paper then buff it comes out like new

Just saw a DIY fix for scratches off mirrors. There are 2 things you can do: 1) use a product called Brasso. You can get this at your Home Depot or 2) Clear nail polish. Place a little bit of it on and wait an hour. After the wait is over, use acetone/ nail polish remover to take it off. The nail polish will have filled in the scratches on the mirror and you should be good.

I've got some scrathes on my mirror that I have to get out. I'll try and post some pics of how it went. Hope this helps!

lesson learned - there is clear nail polish & there is NON-YELLOWING clear nail polish. You want non-yellowing if you go that route.

Maybe try a song and dance to see if it can be covered for warranty?
