I need to put a hard tri-fold tonneau cover on my 6.5' bed and I really can't afford $1,000 for a hard cover. Shopping around I've come across a couple others that cost much less. I know the old saying you get what you pay for but, sometimes you also pay a lot more that you have too. I'm looking for any suggestions. I need it to be waterproof or very close to it, especially when I store my hunting gear in it. I don't need or don't intend on standing on it so I don't need something that will support 500 pounds. Some of the other covers I've seen are Pro Z, Tyger and then there are some on ebay which are really cheap. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

There are multiple threads about this, but I’ll leave my input here.
I was in the same boat, didn’t want to spend a ton, needed something waterproof and secure.
I went with a gator evo bi fold cover.. got it on a Memorial Day sale for $500 shipped. I love the fit and finish of it.

Very Nice but I'm not sure a bi-fold would work on my 6'6" bed.

Check out the Lomax tonneau for our trucks - solid build, aluminum (lightweight), low profile design, and nice quality. I've been very happy with mine so far.

Sorry, I misunderstood, thought $1,000 was the top of your budget. Check Craigslist for a used Undercover maybe? Rock solid, 100% waterproof and great security for your gear.

Having researched DiamondBack and Ridgelander, I rolled the dice and bought a Tyger T5 and I'm satisfied with it. It has been on the truck for 3 months and so far, so good.
I get a little water, but I think that has more to do with small gaps in the bed itself where the bedsides meet the tailgate and the small gaps directly behind the cab on either side.
(I plan on filling the gaps after a LineX install) Easy, one person install and removal.
I had an UnderCover SE on my Tacoma- it was fine, but a PITA to remove without a helper. (It also leaked a little)

Check your local craigslist and other sites for a used one?

One thing thing I like that I forgot to mention- no need to move the bed rails down for the Tyger install.
I think that with some of the hard folding covers the cargo rails get moved down a few inches with a bracket.
