Why did you read his post, or better yet why did you reply in the manner you did. Maybe you should leave.

Better get the Platinum instead of the KR. You get the massage seats standard, they are great on long trips.

One of my father in law's coworkers offered to sell me his 2017 3.5EB Lariat. I declined when I ran the VIN and found it had a dozen recalls. On a design that hasn't changed since 2015...

Ford is by far the worst manufacturer when it comes to recalls. Seems every other week we get a new batch of them for our fleet. Of course we have a ton of Focus and Fusions so that is the majority of them but they trucks are rough too. My favorite thing about Ford recalls is that the initial recall doesn't even fix the issue. The Focus has had 5 or 6 recalls on the transmission and 2 or 3 on the TCM. Same issue, never fixes it. They finally just allowed people that had already replaced Clutch/Seals to get reimbursed for them. Maine just got a $16,000 check from Ford for all the fixes we have done. 2 or 3 Recalls on the F-150 block heater.

Although at least they admit they messed up when making the vehicles where as GM just says 3/36 and you are SOL.

I shopped Nissan,GMC, Ford before buying the Tundra. Being hit head on years ago in a Corolla and walking away I felt it was time to go back to Toyota for trade value, longevity and overall quality as stated above.

According to the Consumer Reports info my brother was looking at, the F-150 is Ford's least reliable model. But I think that's based on customer info so I don't know how accurate it is. Truck guys seem to have higher standards and pay more attention than the average consumer.

Honesty, I had numerous big three trucks, two Tacomas and a 2018 Tundra; overall they are all good trucks and do what yo ask them to do. With that said, they all have their own issues.

Right now I drive a 2017 F-150 Platinum with 34K miles, tomorrow it is going to the dealer because the panoramic moon roof rattles and my rear window defroster does not work. Considering that my truck has every conceivable electronic gizmo I bought a 5/75 bumper to bumper warranty for $1200 with no deductibles. If Toyota get their act together with the next Tundra (whenever that is) and especially improves the interior plastic parts I'll buy a Tundra Platinum. I have to say that they are on the right track by now offering keyless entry and push button start. By the way, the 2nd Gen 3.5L EcoBoost is a beast.....turbo is the way to go IMO.

I know many of you consider it a virtue not having so many electronics and keeping the design simple. I just have a different opinion on that.

I don't get how you bring up your reasons and then turn to two brands with far more known and often seen issues?

It could be however for me not until they fix the efficiency of a turbo charged V6 while towing. I have towed with many trucks that I have owned or for someone I worked with company trucks. It is still mind boggling to me that a 2017 F150 Ecoboost gets less MPGs towing loads than my 2013 Ram 1500 Hemi did. We are talking 5-7 compared to 9-10 of the Hemi powered truck or 10 that my Tundra averages towing. Now yes I do not buy a truck for the Fuel economy but that is pretty dumb. Once they figure that out then maybe it would be the way to go or just stick those turbos on a V8.

Thank you all for your opinion and the data. Based on a ton of other research, steakbomb's experience, szabo101's data, and what the insurance company paid out, I'm going to get another Tundra. My truck was in great shape, but I couldn't believe they gave me 30,500'sh for a 3.5 year old SR5 with 53,000 miles. I could be wrong, but I think I would've got low 20's for a domestic with similar amenities. Now I just need to decide which one to get. All of the trims have stuff that I like and don't like, so it could take a bit. Thanks again everyone for talking some sense into me!!!

Agreed, MPGs suck while towing but they do tow, closest thing to the Ram 2500 CTD I had. I never got mine down to 5-7 but around 10-11 is the norm with a 5k trailer behind it. Its all relative, my Class A Winnebago (8.1L GM) gets a whopping 9 MPG under ideal conditions (like no hills, no headwind, stay below 65 mph).

I had a 3.5 Ecoboost and it did tow my boat well. At low speeds the Tundra feels about the same, but on the interstate at 70-75 the Ecoboost rarely had to shift or search for a gear. My Tundra seemed to shift up/down regularly to maintain the speed.... Nice Eagle Rising.

There is a reason you don’t see tundras as fleet trucks. if they were beat on like municipal vehicles, the result would likely be the worse or same. That is next level abuse.

I tow with both 2019 5.0 King Ranch and the tundra, MUCH prefer towing with tundra. nothing to do with motor, everything to do with the transmission. Where the KR sucks the Tundra really does well.

In every other way, I’ll take the KR for a multitude of reasons. My tundra is only 5 years old, it might as well be 10.

you can customize a F150 exactly how you want it, in ways toyota doesn’t let you. Push button start coming to tundra in 2020? lol come on.

Tundra is arguably the worst looking, most outdated, under performing, least safe, but it’s dependable and drama free. Can’t put a price on drama free. The KR has also been issue free. Both vehicles are still too new to really tell yet though.

    ymmv.

Sorry that is incorrect the reason you do not see Tundras as Fleet vehicles is because Toyota does not heavily discount to Fleets like Ford and GM does I know this because I used to be the guy that would order the trucks for my boss before I left that job. And for the record it is kind of hard for a fleet company to not take a 20 grand F150 or GM truck over a 30 something grand Tundra. Someone else in the thread already mentioned this as well. It is this reason alone that Fleet companies do not take Tundras. Also because of this there is no way of telling how the Tundra would handle in fleet care. My old boss also had a 08 Tundra that he would use on his farm and it was worked hard when he drove it to work it hand dings scratches bed was always full of dirt. He was the one who asked me to try to get some Tundras but due to the price difference and how cheap Ford and GM were giving their trucks away we had to go with them. My old boss was also one of the ones who swayed me towards my 18 Tundra instead of Ram for my personal truck.

We are both guessing, no one knows how they’d hold up to that kind of abuse, unless someone here manages a fleet of SR5s. I’d venture a guess they’d hold up similarly or worse, just my opinion.

Ford is more accommodating to configuring vehicles for the buyer, you can make them as expensive or as cheap as you want. They don’t sell nearly 1 million F series a year because they suck.

The Fleet price difference between a Tundra and the Ford and GM trucks is definitely a fact but as far as the abuse yes we are left with guessing because Toyota does not heavily discount for fleets.

I don't know if you would consider it a "fleet", but i manage the 4 tundras my company currently has in rotation, 2 of them are considered company supplied personnel vehicles. (Employees get to drive them outside of work) 1 of them is a managers truck (only drivin to and from employees house and shop and to and from job sites, and the last one is a shop truck.

The one that gets abused the most is my old personnel truck that is now the shop truck. It has 200,000 miles on it now and is driving mostly but teenagers who run parts to and from job sites. In 200k miles the only non maintenance repair was a rear axle seal, which I'm sure was caused by way overloading the truck when both of our f350 went down and were in the shop. Other than that it has only been oil changes, brakes and tires.

The truck that gets abused the least is the bosses truck. It a 2013 that has 140k on it now also no issues/ only ever goes in for maintenance, he does drive the truck hard and drives it to Colorado once a year and he drives it on a bunch of back road and offroad trails for hunting.

The managers truck is a 2019 still under 10k miles so I don't have any solid data on it yet, hasn't even been in for an oil change.

My new truck is also a 2019 and i do all of our long distance work, in the 2 months I've had the truck it's been to both the northern and southren California borders and just had its first oil change at 10k miles. I don't abuse my truck but it is also always driven with 500lbs of tools and I don't baby the truck. The only issue I've had which I hardly call an issue is that the I got the radar cruise control no ready message, but that was right after I drove through a wall of bugs. I just stopped at the next gas station and clean the windshield and front emblem and everything went back to working.

Before these 4 tundras we've had 3 others, a 2001 was the first doesn't really apply to this conversation but it was flawless until wrecked at 230k miles.

The first of the new tundras was a 2008. This truck was problem free until 148k miles when the air pumps failed and put the truck into limp mode. It was limped to the closet dealer where toyota fixed the issue under the extended warranty that toyota sent out for that issue, but before we got the truck back, the manager at the dealer made us an offer on it so we traded it in for the current 2013.

The next tundra was a 2011 we got used with 20k miles on it from carmax. That truck had a water pump start leaking at 50k miles, (it was a small leak only noticed because it drained the overflow tank in between oil changes and you could see a wet spot on the front of the pump) $500 fix and that was the only issue that truck ever had, it was traded in at 200k for the current 2016 tundra that is now the shop truck.

Along side the tundras we've had a 05 chevy 2500 duramax/ allison that went through injectors like candy by 100k miles and and the last straw was a bad turbo at 125k miles. It was sold for a 2012 f350 powerstroke which we still have. This truck has gone in for 2 egr recalls, failed oil water separator, plugged egr cooler, and the last issue was a bad turbo that the technician that replaced it messed up the head gasket. It has been down a total of 4 months for non maintenance issues since 2013 when we got it. This is doesn't even account for the bearings and ball joints this truck goes through every 25k to 35k miles as I still consider those maintenance items.

The last vehicle in the fleet is a 2013 f350. It has been fairly trouble free, its had 2 small recalls and has been down a combined couple of weeks since we've had it. But it has the same ball joint and bearing hunger the 2012 has. The last thing I'll note about the fords is the "I beam" front end eats tires faster than an other vehicle I've seen.

I was lucky enough to become a WO before they made us branch officers and was able to wear the eagle for a few years. I am retired now.
