My 6 1/2 year old OEM battery was still starting strong when I replaced it yesterday. I only replaced it because of the group buy, and because I've seen two battery failures in recent months that wouldn't even take a jump start. Plus I found out that if you take the battery out of the circuit in modern cars you'll fry the ECU. And winter is coming. Gave it to my SIL, he'll use it as a spare for the winch in his race car trailer. Still tested good.

Only mod ivI' got in battery is new jl audio amp from tech12volt.
Wouldn't think it was draining battery.
Battery was just weak enough not to crank truck . I've been putting trickle charger on it at night. To make sure i can get to work.

KIMG1559.jpg well I went by Walmart yesterday on the way home from work. And bought an h7 agm battery. 5 year free replacement. Width and length fit in battery pan .height is a little shorter . But fits good .
I figured if something goes bad and i need to replace it there' a Walmart in about every town . I have a small charger ,maintaner so I hooked it up over night to make sure it's charged good . I hooked up stereo amp and winch cables . Hoping this agm battery will do good with add on's . hopefully I won't need winch to much . But want a good battery when I do use it.

We were lucky, my wife's battery in her Highlander died 4 days before the warranty expired. Toyota paid for the tow and a new battery.

My Tundra's battery died at the gas station about a month back when I tried to leave after pumping thank goodness it didn't start a riot. I got a jump and drove down the road and had a new one put in. The Tundra is a 2015 and had around 128,000 miles on it with the original battery - good service.

Decided to get a new battery. I'll just sell the factory one. I do not want to get stuck anywhere.

I did stop by academy and buy a genius gb49 jump starter a few days ago.
They were on sale $70 .
Just encase I got stranded again. But hopefully the AGM battery will last me a while.

image.jpg The battery in my 2015 was ok till yesterday. I started the truck , but noticed a slight delay in starter speed. I had it checked at the outoparts, And it read 12.6 volts and 478 ccs. It was 34f in the morning. The scanner recommends recharging.
Went to the dealer today and picked up a 27f 710ccc 165 reserve minutes for 115.00. With 84month wArranty. With the cold and heat of north ga I’ve averaged 3-5 years with other vehicles and batteries.

I have been trying to spread the word about this but haven't been very successful...

It's not the batteries... when the factory installs them they overtighten the J clamp.. I am 99% sure this is the problem... if y'all go out and look right now you will see the damn thing is squeezing the plastic so hard that its creating a crack.. which in turns corrodes everything... my 08 had this and my 19 was the same.. I've brought this up to Toyota but it feel on deaf ears.. I asked for a Service bulletin to be generated but still nothing... good luck y'all!

I'm surprised Toyota puts a crappy battery in there... No problems with mine yet but good to know

Mine seemed to die this morning as well. Ran the truck for about 30 minutes yesterday while I removed snow from the driveway and it started with no problems. This morning it just clicked at me so it was discharged for some reason (it did get into the high teens last night). Rather than mess with getting it replaced under warranty (and probably dying again) I just went and bought an Optima.

I found this situation when I changed my batter this summer. The battery acid had started to eat away the finish on the top strap on one side.

The new óptimas are not as well made either. The last one I purchased about two years ago split at the seams.

Yeah I heard about some of the quality issues but I've had good luck with them in the past and there's a 3 year warranty so i'm not too worried.

Was it over tightened? I've had no issues with any of my Optimas including the new ones. South of the border production line is identical to the one that I used to go to here in Aurora before it relocated. Batteries are made exactly the same way, but having one split at the seams isn't good and should have been covered under warranty if it was mounted properly:thumbsup:

My brother in law has worked at Toyota for 21 years. First thing he does is ditch the oem battery and get an agm battery. He even did it on his last few executive lease vehicles.

Wanted pics and battery shipped back. I ended up going to Walmart and buying a reg battery from them . Going strong for 3 years so far.

Well I read this thread yesterday and hadn't had any issues with the battery up to then.. Went to start the truck this morning and it was dead. Talk about weird timing. I'm going tomorrow to get it replaced under warranty cuz I don't feel like buying a new one right now.

I'll have to take a pic. But I made a new hold down strap from stainless steel and installed on new battery. Much better than factory.

It's cut so it fits over the sides . To hold battery from sliding forward or back .
Much easier to get to the nutsbon j hooks.
At so far no problems from battery. I haven't used the new winch yet. But it's hooked up to battery.

I also welded a small piece of square stock onto underside. It fits into a slot in battery where the handles rest . So there's no side movement.
