just tried to plug my phone into the USB port and nothing happened. Started the truck and it dinged like it was charging, but shortly after, realized there was no lightning bolt symbol indicating that it was being charged. After that, no matter what i did - fiddling with the connections, unplugging/replugging, etc. it wouldn't charge. Anyone run into this?? Would a USB adapter into the 12v cigarette lighter plug work??

Most built in USB ports only charge at 500ma which isn't enough to keep up with most phones.

Most phone chargers now are at least 2A.

I just use a cigarette lighter usb charger to charge my phone. The built-in USB charges so slowly that its practically useless.

The advantage to the cigarette lighter charger is I can move it to the back if one of the kids needs to charge a device. #CrewMaxlife

as others have said - the usb is barely able to charge anything...most need at least a 1.5 ma to charge - if not more....I dont use the USB at all - just BT in to my headunit.

I had to quit using USB and buy a cheap lighter plug adapter with charging cord. And, have to change out charging cords every 6 or so months.
I think all the moving the phone around while it’s charging accelerates the cord wearing out faster.
only good part is being able to use the lighter outlet inside the center console and just leave the cord hanging towards passenger seat. There when I need it, not in the way when not in use. Maybe try a different cord, or a different cord with cig lighter adapter.
That’s what works for me, hope it helps. Good luck with your issue, bet it’s frustrating not being able to charge when you need to.

I have the same issue with my new iPhone X max. I thought that something had gone wrong with the USB ports. But they were still alive. I wound up buying a cigarette lighter USB adapter and it works like a champ.

With IOS 13 you have to "unlock your phone to use accessories." Because it recognizes the built in USB as an accessory, you have to unlock the phone after plugging it in. Then it should start charging.

The USB port is only meant to transfer data. It’s not supposed to charge the phone.
