I just realized that most of the tents that I like are the equivalent of a couple mortgage payments. :eek2:

We rock a water port too! Considering a road shower like @Pinay or propane water heater though.

Tepui on a KBVoodoo rack like few others who have posted before me. Was originally considering the 23Zero, but found a used Tepui locally and jumped on it. Also, since Tepui shop wasn't far from me I was able to drive there and get it installed. Have heard good reviews for Tepui, CVT, 23Zero and smittybuilt. You can also get into the hard shell RTT's which are a grade higher in price.

I got my new Smittybilt XL on eBay for under $900.

@Pinay any more photos on your dolly/lift?

I went with Gordigear Explorer Plus 165. I've had it for 3 years and am happy with it; definitely well built.

I went with the Skycamp from Ikamper. It's probably one of the higher priced RTT's but well built, easy to put on and off the truck and easy setup and takedown. Didn't seem to hurt my mileage much at all. First summer with it but very happy with my purchase.

The ikampers are really nice. They are proud of them, but it doesn't seem to be without merit. We had a couple side by side and the ikamper was the sleakest one. I want to say the James borard or whatever was pretty nice too.

SmittyBilt tent for me. Great quality and doesn’t break the bank.

It’s mounted on our 14” ALUMAX rack:

I’m about to pull the trigger on the Tuff Stuff Ranger myself. Nothing but great reviews I’ve seen, sleeps 2+ comfortably, and includes an annex room for only $1,100. Don’t see any downside.

I went with the iKamper Skycamp with the rocky black matte texture shell. Outstanding, high quality RTT. Mine sits on my cab for the stronger weight rating. Accessories, etc live on the rear rack.

Rhino Rack angled mount that interfaces with the Pioneer Platform. Can hold up to 4 with an added rack brace, but I don't use the brace.

Is that Padre? How bad was the wind on the tent? I'm hoping to make a trip down there in the next couple months, but I'm worried about the wind catching the tent awnings.

You guessed it. That pic was down near the jetty.

I’ve only had three trips with the tent so far, but one was last spring 20-30mph sustained, and besides some flapping of the front “scoop” it held up great, and inside it was actually pretty quiet compared to ground tents in the wind. One trip had a heavy storm pass over with heavy rain, kept the awning up to keep the airflow (summer) and only got wet on the windward side of the sideways rain.

The key to keeping it wind savvy is to stake out the backside so the rainfly stays nice and taught.

The pic above is from the windy weekend on Big Shell

Had a smittybuilt and loved it. Sold it recently and picking up a GFC this weekend. Not a single issue with the rooftop though and it was good for myself, my wife, and my lab.
