    Hello all,

Looking to buy a 05-06 Double Cab up here in Canada. I'm looking at purchasing an out of province truck (requiring me to travel to get it), and am trying to figure out "how much is to much" when it comes to frame rust. I would be having a separate mechanic complete a per-purchase inspection close to where the truck is currently, although I would appreciate some feedback if this is even a worthwhile truck to pursue, given the frame. The rest of the truck is in excellent shape, with 98K miles and a good service history.

Attach are some screen shots of a video I had the dealership take.

Don't think the frame was ever coated.

Thank you for the input, I appreciate it

    Don't walk...Run!

I don't know what the price is, but unless it was rock bottom I wouldn't even consider it. Are you able to upload the video?

I would take a hard pass, sorry to rain on your parade but unless it’s way way under book value I wouldn’t.

Yep. I would pass on that one. I know being in Cananda it may be hard to find one that isn't rusted but keep trying.

Yep I’d run. Also reminds me I need to pick up some Amsoil metal protectant for my new truck.

I wonder if anyone has tried a frame swap at home? It can't be much different than my recent cab swap..

If you could get it for next to nothing I think a new frame is in the $6K ballpark.

Aside from that.. hell to the no on that one.

I know in Washington state if you swap frames you have to go get it stamped through state patrol!

    Strange. I wonder why.
The frame isn't part of the vin. I suppose it could be considered reconstructing a vehicle.

Yes, it's been done. There is 1 in the 1st gen build section. It's only going to be easy if you have all the right tools and more than 1 set of hands.

I did my cab swap without any specialized tools.
Just your usual sockets and wrenches.
I did however need 4-6 people to lift the old cab off and put the new one on.
What sort of special tools would you see someone needing?

Dealerships are no dummies. He showed you only pics and views from the outside of the frame that sheds water more readily. If you film the inside of the frame channel and crossmembers I bet you'll find lots of de-lamination and rust swelling. You just gotta visit alot of dealerships and crawl under alot of trucks but there are some little to no rust frames still around. Maybe not in OH, MI, PA, or NY where they spray zenomorph acid on the road each winter. Also when looking don't forget to check the rear diff cover for excessive flake as well. I've seen one that had a great frame, but the owner was a boater so the diff cover was rotted out from launching and loading his boat.
