smart move. Be sure to inspect the carrier bearing while you're at it. The rubber seems to dry rot.

Keep the double cardans well greased. I did that on my LandCruiser every time I changed the oil. Also get a light and look inside the joint, some have zerks that need the needle tip to grease them because the regular zerk is too big to fit inside them. If you ever take it in to get a lube I would be willing to bet they do not get greased, they never look inside them. Both U joints and the ball have a zerk to grease them

Zerk #2 is the ‘hidden zerk’ and the regular tip used for the others will work on it, as well. Trouble is finding the thing as its easy to overlooked even when you know its there.

The 4wd zerks require a retrofitted tip easily made by grinding off a portion of the side.

I wonder if that's an AC thing. I am able to get my small grease gun on the front zerk of my 4WD DC without modifying the tip. It has to be at just the right angle, but I've done it a few times now.

No, I think it's honestly a grease gun thing. The tip of your gun must be smaller in diameter. I scoured the internet for a narrow tip before giving up and using my neighbors bench grinder to bring mine down.

Nice image. The ONLY reason I found that zerk was because I had the entire driveshaft on the work bench under a bright fluorescent light. I think I got all of them greased now (accept 1 because I ran out of grease for now)! An my carrier bearing is surprisingly in pretty good shape for now. I may go ahead and switch it out soon as well while this is all still fresh in my head.

    Thanks again everyone!

    Not a bad price.
I miss having a friend that works for a Toyota dealership.
I got a new driveshaft for free once.
He said that they had piles of take offs that were in ok shape but got replaced under warranty.
