    Fox 2.0 front coil, icon shocks rear, k&n drop in,
    Hey everyone! Looking to upgrade the rear suspension on my tundra. Here’s the rundown.

    first gen 2005 tundra 4x4 Access cab limited.
    Fox 2.0 coil over set around 2.5in of lift with spc uca
    Icon shocks firestone air bags and 2in Lift block on the back stock leaf spring.

    I’m looking to replace the springs and airbags and hopefully not have a block any longer.

    Ideas considering Cheapest to most expensive.

    new stock leaf pack with icon add a leaf plus 1in lif block.

    custom deaver springs to make up the 2-3 in of Lift I already have.

    archive Garage shock relocation cross member with new axle shock tabs new fox smoothies archive hammer hangers and his new leave spring pack soon to be released.


    Goal:
    Smoother ride with more travel. Cary more weight towing a light trailer on highway once in a while and Medium difficulty off road trails.

    questions:
    What would you do? Are there other options?

    thanks everyone looking forward to the discussion and info. I have searched and couldn’t find anything that was specific enough to help me decide.

    I have a 2005 double cab 4x4 with a similar Icon set-up, and was in the same situation as you this time last year. I went with new Deaver springs. No regrets.

    Hate to say it but those two things very contradicting when it comes to suspension design.
    I would vote for some custom deaver springs.
    At the very least they'll be able to get you the weight carrying capacity without sagging and offer more travel.
    I would be of the opinion that the right shocks would help make those springs more comfortable when unloaded.

    OP, the icon AAL isn't good according to a few ppl on here. You're better off with the wheelers off-road progressive AAL as it's made of slightly thicker metal

    Isn't this just speculation at this point? No one has provided any measurements.

    @Meliot123 skip the add-a-leaf all together and just get new leaf packs. You'll be glad you did. The AAL is a band-aid. I just put the Icon AAL on my truck and got essentially zero lift but it did help the ride improve very slightly.

    If you know how much weight you want to carry you can reach out to Alcan and they will build you custom leaf packs that have more travel.

    General Springs offers for my 2002 an OE version and also a OE Heavy Duty Version (one more leaf/adds lift).

    Prices look reasonable.

    Anecdotal info on custom springs (no names to protect innocent): The few phone calls I made and the ensuing discussion yielded that I could not order new springs for my truck unless I gave them specific measurements on what I wanted. Being a hand model, this sent me into a slight panic as it required Geometry and a bit of basic mathematics. I told them I just want whats OEM. They said they need measurements. Leafs got put on hold.

    Conclusion: Save your dough and sanity and order either OE or the HD version which are in stock versus a long lead time waiting for a custom. Nothing wrong with custom which makes sense on some of these full time rock crawlers, but for you the General HD will work. Or, go OE and add a leaf.

    Well we.know the wheelers one is made with thicker metal than previous models and we know it doesn't get complaints. So without typing up a long explanation you're not wrong but I was just trying to cut to the chase for the sake of brevity and to save the guy the headache the icon AAL

    Sounds like the HD General pack plus AAL would be a solid choice

    So conclusion is add a leaf is a choice but probably not the best choice. Has anyone seen the shock relocation cross member archive garage is making. It’s supposed to pair up with the fox smoothie shocks and give us a bit more travel. A bird told me there might be a new product or two being released I. The next week also. So I think I’m going to go with a custom spring from deaver with 2-3 in hopefully hammer hangers from archive garage and our a limit strap on untill I need new shocks then upgrade to the shock relocation kit and the fox smoothies. Thoughts?

    You really need to boil down what you realistically want/need from the pack.

    Being able to carry weight and longer travel are complete opposite. So throw out more travel.

    That eliminates sua, i vote too for a custom leaf pack. You’ll get the height you want, a more progressive spring rate, and eliminate the block.

    Needs vs wants
    I've got a 2001 access cab 4x4 and put in the wheelers progressive add a leaf pack and removed the overload leaf. didn't lift much, but the truck rides real nice and carries weight just a touch better even. It's the cheapest, but if money isn't a big deal, I'm sure you'll love a new leaf pack back there.

    How are your fab skilz? I say you do a shackle flip, replace all the hangers and install a set of 63" cheby's with whatever lift you need to make it level. With the shackle flip, you'll probably only need a set of 1" lift leafs.

    This would seem to indicated that the Wheeler's isn't going to provide more lift than the ICON. I think it boils down to these being nearly 20 year old leaf packs.

    One thing ICON told me(when they finally responded) is that their AAL hasn't changed since they designed it 10 years ago. So when they first tested it they were trying it on leaf packs that were not that old. Now, it almost seems like they need to offer a more modern version to account of the age of 1st gen Tundras. Maybe a HD AAL.

    Like I said, it's best to just save up for new leaf packs since some of our trucks are approaching 20 years old.

    Shackle flip is a good idea. You can fab the shackle hanger to the amount of lift you want

    Thank you for the post. I will be ordering up some oe replacements. I don't do any wheeling with my 1st gen, just used to haul my bikes to the track and back on the weekends. Great price for stock replacements. Awesome 1st gen community on here.

    Obviously a great choice but no deserts here in bc. I decided to go with a deaver custom pack and limit strap it with my icons until I can afford to shock relocate and need new shocks. How much over stock capacity. 500# or 700# I’m always running a canopy and gear adds up quick

    So I have on order a shock relocation bracket that allows for a longer shock.

    Wanting to pair that up with a nice leaf pack. I understand you can’t get both carrying capacity and travel out of a spring without sacrifice but you can sit on the knife edge.

    has anyone had experience with atlas springs? They make an expedition pack.

    The biggest hurdle on gen 1 trucks is the very low amount of uptravel that is available. There just isnt much room between the frame and the top of the spring pack.

    If you really want to invest in it, a fully custom spring under is doable, but the more flex you have the less you can haul

    Still happy with my Atlas leaf packs. I don't want to sound like a shill since Atlas and Deaver both make great springs but I've had zero issues still with my packs. I'm actually going to buy a new set of packs from Atlas to replace my current "expedition" spring setup because I don't carry that much weight anymore.

    I'm still debating this one myself. Currently thinking of the HD leaf set from General Spring or waiting to see what the Expo pack from Archive.

    Also, I contacted Wheeler's before regarding the add a leaf. Here's the response:

    "Best bet would be to either have a custom pack built by Deaver, Alcan, or general springs,
    But you could do the single leaf 1.5-inch lift add-a-leaf, it will give you a slight bit more capacity but probably not what you're after,
    And it will lift it a small amount
    I would recommend having a pack built to specs of what your application and weight is.
    The 3 leaf is more of a performance AAL pack, it does not help support additional weight as well as the singles"
