I've been considering buying a Tundra for a while but I've been kind of biding my time trying to choose the best time to buy. My local dealership is telling me that now is that time as they have great deals until the end of November.

I wanted to check what your experiences have been around when the best Toyota sales are. I know Red Tag Days in the spring is good but I want to get my truck in time to get a canopy for it before camping season and I don't want to risk not getting the truck I want.

It looks like Toyota is currently offering 0.99% financing for 48 months, which is about the lowest they ever go. So, do you guys think there will be better deals on 2020s before ~April (say Black Friday, "Boxing Week", etc.) or should I go for it at the end of this month?

If you are willing to go with a 2019 instead of a 2020 then they get cheaper as more of the new models come it. The downer is that the options dwindle the more you wait. Personally, I like to pick a price that I will pay, go to the dealer and say "I will give you this much for that vehicle." If they can make it happen, I'm happy, and if not, I walk.
I realize that might not always be an option; but, of the 4 brand new vehicles I've purchased, doing it that way was the best buying experience I had.

Cheapest I have found over the years is around this time for the closing years model...I got a great deal on my 18 bought in October timeframe with dealer discounts and toyota factory discounts.

Thanks for the input. I was looking at leftover 2019s at this dealership (which claims to be the largest in western Canada) but the only CMs they had left were Platinums, which, even at $10k off, were still $10k more than an SR5, which has all the features I want.

Mine claimed to be the largest in our area too, I'm guessing they all say that. I'm in Manitoba, Crown Toyota. Sales person was fine, finance guy when we signed was a moron.

We went SR5, 2019, in September when they had 8k off plus some dealer accessories for 1/2 off (liner, nerf bars, rear step etc)

I can't speak for how stuff works north of the border, but to get the sale dealerships will do inventory swaps. That's how I got mine. Definitely worth shopping around too. If you can pull up a truck you want and show it to them, a lot of them will work to get you the truck you want.
You just make sure you don't sign anything that is over the total price you want, and never tell them what you are looking for in a payment.Dealerships will get you almost any payment you want by extending the loan and increasing the interest rate. A $500 a month payment sounds great, until you realize you are going to be making it for 8 years.

October and November are usually the best as new model year starts rolling out. 19's are discounted pretty good right now but inventory is starting to get pretty thin. If you are fine with a 19 instead of a 20 now would be best. 20's would be significantly more than the 19's right now.

Also, if I got a 2019 right now, I'd be paying 7% interest instead of 1 or 1.5% unless I can find a generous credit union. So the 2019 SR5 that's listed for about $1k less than a 2020 ends up being over $5k more once you pay the interest.

Late August through October is the best time to find a deal on the 2020. Keep in mind the selection starts to dwindle the longer you wait if you are looking for a specific package/color/trim.

That must just be differences across the border. Here, new is new regardless of year, so the banks/CUs offer the same interest. And the 2019s are getting pretty deep price cuts as well. If you're area is running as you say, you've got no reason not to go for the 2020.

Well, I found one 2019 SR5 left within 500 km of me. Going to test drive it on Saturday. And if it sells, I'll look at a 2020 SX instead.

Thanks! I just realised my post was unclear. My search was a 500 km radius but the truck is actually in the same city as I am. It's the only 2019 in my price range that came up, though.

IMHO. There isn’t a best time of the year to buy a car or truck. It’s ALWAYS the last day of the month, but not every month. Dealers get extra and retroactive bonuses from the manufacturer based on many factors like total sales, certain model incentives, and financing bonuses. An example would be, if the dealer sells 100 Tundras they will get an extra $400/per truck retroactive for that month as a bonus. That’s a $40,000 bonus if they hit it. It took me 4 months to get my Tundra. I went in at the last day of the month and offered a couple thousand below invoice even on high demand vehicles. They took the deal when the loss they took on my sale would be greatly offset by the bonus from the manufacturer. You gotta be patient and wait for the month that you will both win.

Turns out both the 2019s that dealership said they had were sold but they gave me a good price on a 2020 so I ordered it.
