'19 Tundra Crewmax with 5'7''bed with deck rail system that I do not want to relocate. I'm in the northeast with pretty severe winters. What hard/folding tonneaus are you guys having the best luck with? I'm looking to spend around $1000 ballpark. Thanks

I think you have to relocate the rails with most of the covers IIRC. I used this kit to do mine. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/bak-410tb

The only cover you don't have to move the rails is the OEM. Moving the rails is nothing. It's 4 tabs that are supplied and are easy. I have the MX4 Bakflip and you have to install it and make it work. I left my bed in the rain last night and this morning there was maybe a cup of water that had run through it at the tailgate section. I saw a small spot around the fender well. Mine is sitting neutral in the carport so most of the drainage is at the tailgate. I installed tailgate seal and lined up the rail to extend just past the tailgate seal. I have the OEM bed mat. It's like a hog because it sits up proud in the bed. If I put anything on top of the bed mat, there's no way it going to get wet for now. People hate em or like em. I'm still new with it.

Also: The OEM doesn't fold all the way back. Only 2/3 open FWIW.

I have had really good luck with my Undercover Flex. They have 3 variants of the Flex and I have the ultra flex which is aluminum. The two others I believe are Fiberglass Resin Panel(FRP) and Line-x. This is similar to the backflip with one difference being there are two Rods to fold the cover up and it holds it parallel with the back of the cab vs holding it against the cab with the backflip. I have had the previous version of the regular flex (FRP Version) on a previous tundra and it held up pretty good as well. This cover does not relocate the bed rails however you cannot use the factory silver tie downs along the sides of the bed as the rails for the cover are two close to the bed rail system. You can source T-Nuts and add D-ring tie downs. Undercover also has bed rail system specific clamps that secure very well. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys, I may have to consider an OEM cover. Anyone try a
BAK Revolver X4 or the X2 by chance?

Check out the Lomax tonneau cover. It mounts directly to the deck rails, is super low profile and is very lightweight if/when removal is required. Priced way better than the OEM ones too!

It's aluminum (nice and lightweight) and comes in 2 different finishes a standard/flat black and a silver diamond plate.

I live in the snow belt as well and often keep tools and other valuables in the bed. The only cover I’ve found that really keeps stuff dry is a fiberglass Leer 700 or 750. It’s also pretty secure with the cover and the tailgate locked as far as keeping things safe from prying eyes and fingers. I paid around $1200 for mine IIRC. It comes with the quick release clamps and you can get the cover off and put in back on in less than 5 minutes but you’ll need a helper and someplace safe to set it down. You can leave it up and drive for reasonable distances at reasonable speeds... and fit fairly tall stuff under there... but I wouldn’t get on the highway and go 75MPH or anything.

Outside of your price range but I use the Retrax pro MX. No Need to relocate the rail system. Its matte black so it matches the rest of the black on the truck. Watertight and really sturdy. It's also really low profile so it looks slick on the truck. Two family members purchased one for their trucks after seeing mine. I don't have a great shot of it but if you're interested I could take some different angles tmrw

Have a look at the diamondback SE. it’s a bit more money but worth it.

I have a 2016 CM short bed and a zdog flush mount tool box, wanting to add a tonneau cover over the tool box and on the OEM rails that will allow me access to the tool box. I haul some items while camping that should be out of the weather, any ideas?

Sounds like you need to consider an Undercover tonneau or similar.

How is your Lomax holding up? How long have you had it and is it proving durable?
It’s one of my finalists but it looks a little flimsy in some of the videos and I’m curious how it will hold up and if it shows it’s age quickly.

I'm only 5 months in but it's holding up great. I added the tailgate gasket to REALLY make it water-tight (would have to do that with just about any tonneau on these trucks though the gaps there are so wide). Really happy with the functionality and low-profile looks of it and it's hard to beat the removability and weight of it! Install was a breeze too (using the factory rail system).

Doesn’t the diamondback use the factory rail system?

I got a lomax that arrived yesterday. I’m having trouble getting the cover to lay centered on the side rails, ie even overhangs on both side of the bed and square across the back of the tailgate.
I spent quite a bit of time trying to fine tune the side rail positions but none of it really made much difference, still seems like the cover overlaps the left side rail more then right and the cover doesn’t look square against the tailgate. I’m starting to wonder if the actual bed is of the truck is square.
Also does your tailgate seal kit make a tighter seal between the top edge of your tailgate and the End of the cover? I’m a little disappointed with the gap I have there as it seems easier then I expected for someone to stick ther fingers under the cover lip and rip the cover right up if they really wanted to get in. Hoping some more adjustments with the rail might get the end of the cover to sit lower and tighter to the tailgate.

It all starts with laying it on your bed in the folded position, and making sure the first third of the Tonneau is sitting correctly and installed straight and snug. From there it should feed straight out toward the tailgate. And the adjustability in the mounting brackets is what will dictate how tight it is to the bed rail and tailgate top.

I found a couple of videos to watch online, maybe from their website or maybe from YouTube I cannot recall, that helped clarify a few things before I tried mine.

*Bed not being 100% square is likely always a thing to some extent I imagine? But much like a house, I can't imagine that making too much of a difference?
