The radiator showed a small sign of a previous leak that had sealed itself. The radiator was replaced at the time of install.
The truck has always been reliable.
I've read that the engine and drive train are designed for up to 600 hp.
Bringing the power up to 500 with a SC wouldn't be an issue. The harder the acceleration, the more the SC whine sound, the more the air and fuel amounts are forced in.
Not drag racing on a track, or Dino testing, or pulling heavy loads are in my favor of engine longevity.
I may be gambling on the reliability of my long term investment, but it seams that "Old Tundras don't die, they just get traded in for a newer model".

I gambled buying a truck that had 270,000 undocumented miles on it, so I guess doubling down isn't such a terrible idea 20,000 problem free miles later.

None of that is on my to-do list, but I do like the idea of additional torque when I want it.

I appreciate the reply, thank you.

This isn't the mid 1900s or a 3.slow in a 4runner, the 5.7 is a proven engine. I wouldn't break a sweat throwing a blower on at 300k. I installed mine after 200k too with no issue, and I have no issue letting the boosty bois rip.

Wow, glad to hear this. I was getting a little nervous because I'll be close to 60K before I can get mine installed (Hoping it will be done in within the next 4 months at the latest). Currently just under 52K on the Odo.

I have a 2010 Crewmax Platinum that was supercharged since birth. Dealership maintained with oil every 5,000. At 204,000 now with no issues what so ever. 85,000 on first set of Spark plugs, 118,000 on second set. Besides a few belts and an a/c line leak this thing has been problem free!

I thought I was almost done with my Tundra but after reading this thread maybe I 'need' a supercharger.

I put mine on at 185k I’m at 197k she’s running good. Paying high dollar for good oil and keeping my oil changes at around 5k since she’s getting older. Also I let my truck warm up the tranny hates the cold shifts with the supercharger. Now she’s about to get gears. Good luck I’m also in AZ Mesa area and commute to phx everyday

My truck has been Supercharged since day 1. I'm currently at 246k miles. It's been well maintained, but driven like it's supposed to. Several WOT pulls every week. Still runs like a champ. No weird noises, no oil consumption, shifts perfectly. And it runs like a scalded ape. The only thing I'd fault it for is piss poor rear tire lifespan. I don't understand it!

I've been jonesing for a SC for my '08 Sequoia, and now my wife just bought a '14 Tundra Platinum. So it appears a pair of SCs will be joining the family...wonder if the sellers accept children for payment? :fingerscrossed:

I bought the Sequoia with 219K miles on the clock for $8500 cash 2.5 years ago, and we just returned from our Christmas vacation and rolled past 282K. I feel like I've already gotten my money's worth out of it, so if I do SC it and it tanks, I won't feel too bad.

I’ve built several motors in the past, most notably Toyota 2JZ’s and a few boosted 5VZ’s. The one factor to maintain engine reliability and longevity on a force-induced engine is detonation...period. You can double a corolla engine’s HP and maintain excellent reliability and longevity if the car is tuned right and doesn’t ping it’s brains out. I’m not a fan of off-the-shelf tuners, but I would bet that IF anyone has reliability or longevity issues from supercharging their Tundra, it’s almost always related to the calibration maps provided with the supercharger kits. Just my two cents.

Nothing grenades a forced induction engine, or a relationship, faster than premature detonation.

Pressures are higher, heat is increased, not to mention that they are frequently driven harder with the go pedal floored.

I would never, never, ever buy a used tundra that has had a supercharger added on. My assumption is that it was probably driven too hard by some young kid with too much money.

I don't think there are a lot of kids out there supercharging their Tundras and then abusing it. It's more likely an older guy who carefully maintains it. Like me.

I love seeing responses to this thread. My Tundra has almost 70k miles, supercharged for almost all of those miles. No issues at all.

    Mike,
I am aware that many of the owners of supercharged tundras are reasonable drivers......but
On another forum, and here, I have started threads to see if many supercharged tundras have made it to 200000 miles. Very few have. Usually they were charged later in life. Engines that are designed and engineered for forced air are usually built a bit differently

Exactly this! Tundra’s aren’t exactly on the “inexpensive” side of the spectrum as trucks to start with for a “kid”, let alone modifying them with pricey supercharger systems. So, I don’t think you will see many (if any) “kid-owned” supercharged Tundra’s on the used market. Don’t be afraid of buying a forced-induced Tundra second or third hand. If the Tundra is messed up for any reason, there is a very good chance you will notice the problems up front at the time of purchase. Again, with forced induction, tuning is key!

Perhaps there aren't that many high mileage, supercharged Tundras out there. And since some have been supercharged later in life, it's hard to say what the condition of the engine was at that time.

I agree that a vehicle designed for forced induction is different than a naturally aspirated one. And generally I agree with you about purchasing a modified vehicle; I'd rather be the one doing the modding so I know it's been done right and taken care of. But I believe that a supercharged Tundra that has been carefully maintained should last 200k miles. I think problems arise when the power isn't enough and the owner starts upping the boost...
