Cold Air Intake Question - New User

Just bought this truck and it has the TRD CAI, I tried to go on the TRD USA page and find some user manuals but no luck.

Is the filter re-usable or do I need a new one when it goes bad?

There looks to be a little gauge that tells me when the filter is bad, do I check it with the engine idling i assume?

filter is re-usable. good for a lot of miles before clean up...10,000 at least I think. Also depends if you drive in dusty environment.

ETA: where is your engine cover ? just making sure the truck was sold with it

 

It wasn't on there when I bought it. I'm not sure it will fit with the bigger air intake tube.

How do you inspect it? I assume you just take a look at the float when the engine is idling?

 

Turn off engine, pop the hood and remove top cover. Inspect it if dirty or dusty, tap it a little bit for debris. Like a regular air filter.

link above shows also trimming on intake cover for better fit. Possible the previous owner just discarded it as not to do it. @Nor7

 

the little gauge stays at its position. So no need to check when running. If it starts to go down, it will stay down at its lowest level
