Nord users have basically been compromised for what... like 6 months now?

been a nord user for a long time. use it at home and on the road. the only device that is outside the nord IP block on my router is my day job laptop which has it's own vpn. i use it everywhere.

this is the best explanation i've found on the nord issue.

it was not their fault directly but with a single datacenter that they use which left the RDP service up and running on a single machine. however, they didn't let anyone know which is the issue. i do not connect to any of their european based servers (unless i'm in moscow) so the issue doesn't bother me all that much.

do what you can to minimize the risk. withe time, brains and computing power, everything is hackable. i deal with it every day with my day job.

Jay also mentions that a recent security audit noted that their security isn't as strong as it should be and a very healthy portion of their budget does not go to improving security and services, but to advertising. Although it was not their fault, I do not feel that they did their due diligence in notifying users that there was a potential security issue. They have lost my trust as a security service provider.

I signed up with Norton. 5 devices/39 bucks a year. I’m sure there are better VPNs out there but Norton is a company I’m familiar with and the price was right.

I suppose so. After all, the VPN functionality is convenient for several types of users at once. With the help of encryption technology, as part of using a VPN, the provider and external Internet users will not be able to see which sites you visited, which web resources you visited. Also, the real IP will not be displayed, which will be replaced with the address of the country to which the connection is made via the VPN server. But as for me, I switched to an alternative in the form of proxy servers from Soax a long time ago.

I used Express and IPVanish. Garbage. I had it on my phone and my PC. Had to turn it off several times just to gain access to the WWW.

I couldn't game with it on.... and, of course, couldn't use it for torrents.

I've had the same issues with Norton VPN. Can't recommend that one either.

I've been interested in the Deeper Connect dVPN home appliance. Does anyone have any experience with it?

I won't do anything with Norton or Symantec.

On the malware side of things, Malwarebytes is King.

Yep, over the years Norton has turned into a money-grubbing operation with more nag messages than I can stand.

    Too many, but not enough....
I use one on my phone and laptop 100% of the time. Is it necessary? Probably not, but it doesn't hurt anything. I bought a nordvpn package years ago, something like 7 years of service for like 180 bucks. My whole family has it on their phones.
