    My 88 year old Dad and I have State Farm and live on the same street, but he has a different agent. Our original agent retired and SF assigned us to different agents. Well, mine is much more knowledgeable and experienced; I DO get better advice and assistance than my Dad does. There have been a few times when my Dad was told it was OK to go cheap on the policy, but paid dearly later.

    On another note, a couple years ago I was shopping just to see if I could save some $$ with all of the TV ad claims. Some of the companies I called would cover everything except my wife's 2011 Trans Am because it is a "high performance sports car", while others would cover everything except my house because "you're too far from the fire hydrant" which I can see out of my front window. Great, you'll cover A, B and D, but not C. What good is that? Who knows why they come up with this crap...That's another reason why I stay with State Farm.

    Have you been diligent about comparing your premiums? I was absolutely stunned not only by the sudden jacking up of the premium just going from 2015 to 2016, but their "higher risk" explanation only exacerbated the issue. Then somehow they got the quote Progressive gave me & backed down to the same exact offer. How did they discover what Progressive was now charging me with twice the liability coverage of 300k compared to USAA's 150K?

    I'm sorry you had a bad experience @Benni . Like @RowdyRon said, I can only speak from my experience. Unfortunately, every company in every field of business has at least one bad review.

    When I was a young 18yo airman, USAA was expensive (as was everyone), so I went with the cheapest I could find as I didn't make a lot of money and had a car payment. But, I routinely checked with them, and as soon as I made some rank (and got a little older) I made the switch. I've been extremely happy with them ever since. I definitely see myself being a member for life.

    @RR & lou,

    I understand where you guys are coming from, and trust me, I made phone call after phone call to do everything I could to stick with USAA, but they absolutely were not backing down, I was stunned. They also could not come even close to a respectable quote for homeowners insurance. Maybe a lot of this was the result of living in New York State, but we are so far west that we consider ourselves mid-westerners rather than eastern seaboard types, the only thing I know about New York city is pictures I've seen.

    When I went to Progressive to get a quote, the agent there told me that I'm in such a low risk area that they have clients in the eastern part of the state who pay monthly premiums for what I pay for semi-annual premiums, and I was I stunned to hear that, Wow, $400/month premiums? Blew my mind away.

    USAA for car,trailer,home, and life insurance. Had a couple of claims back to back. Never had a problem. Dropped my truck off at shop and just paid deductible when ready. Ive had nothing but great service and dont have any plans to leave. Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I have friends that work there and know how hard they work to provide great customer service

    I have State Farm for the truck and homeowners. No complaints had to make one claim with the truck a couple years ago and went smoothly with no issues.

    With State Farm for 35 years but check around ever year. Checked with USAA just a couple months ago and they could save us about $150 a year on auto but our home owners would go up almost $1000, needless to say who were insured with.

    I had the same experience. Checked one company and could save on cars, but not homeowners...checked another and they wouldn't even cover my wife's Trans Am. Probably time to check again since we now have a Tundra and Honda Accord.

    I recently switched to Safeco for both home and auto and the costs are quite reasonable.

    I have State Farm: Been with them since I started driving nearly 20 years ago. Never had an issue. Never been denied a claim. Never raised my rate due to an accident. I will stay with them till I am dissatisfied. Then I am switching to USAA.

    I had Progressive for 9 years, but after reading this thread I decided to shop around. Just switched to Geico and saved myself 50 bucks a month for the same coverage.
