FLUKE sells THE #1 handheld multimeter. 2nd place is not even close. They rarely need re-calibration/alignment when sent in to us. 90+% of handhelds that we get in the lab for verification are Fluke. I own several Fluke DMM's and Process Meters:thumbsup:

I've got a couple Flukes for work but if you're just going to read voltage and impedance around the house buy a digital from Wallyworld or China Freight and save yourself some cash.

Another vote for Fluke. All we used when I was an aviation electrician in the Marine Corps. I bought a bunch at my last job for the tech’s. I have one of those now for home use. They are also the only ones we use at work now.

Make sure if your looking at prices you compare Cat. Level. They make like 4. You will only need 1(lowest if I remember right). If you want to save 300% don’t buy from Grainger.

Fluke, buy once cry once. I think mine was about $100-$120 but it's the last one I'll have to buy

Fluke is very good, hard to beat. For automotive or home needs something from Home Depot or Lowes in the $75-100 range will probably work fine.

A Fluke 101 is 40 bucks on Amazon. Doesn’t have a current option but is a solid volt meter.

Fluke is the industry standard, but they are by no means the best dmm for everyone. I got a 189 true RMS that collects dust while i use my el cheapo from wally word for the basic stuff that a non electrician/tech/whatever professional would require.

FYI, fluke was bought out recently from my understanding. I could be wrong about the company's business practices, but Im skeptical of them. I'd stick with the models that have been around for awhile and wait to see if the new ones are held to the same standards.

DC voltage, continuity, 110 around the house....

The amprobe suggested is good for most ppl. I'd buy one. Though, If I was going to spend a few bucks

I spent quite a few years in electrical/electronics using Simpsons and Flukes. I would not let new guys use a digital till they proved they were proficient with an analog. Digitals with autoranging can fool you if you're not paying attention to the scale reading. With all that said, my little meter is a $20 rig from Lowes. Using something a couple of times a year doesn't warrant me to go spend a bunch of money on a Fluke. Most people I know with Flukes pilfered them from their jobs.

We still get in Series 1 Fluke 70's that are over 30 years old and rarely fail verification. The occasional LCD display elastomers need cleaning. You don't see this longevity with any other brand. You might spend 3 times as much or more depending on which Fluke model. There are several offerings depending on need/use. Money well spent. The last meter you will ever buy unless your needs change.

Our company is a major distributor of Fluke meters along with several other brands. We sell thousands of Fluke handheld meters yearly along with Extech and Amprobe to name a couple. Ask any of our cal techs what they think about Extech, Amprobe, Greenlee, Blupoint, Crapsman handhelds.....meh. Nothing wrong with new Fluke models. All about budget, need, light use or heavy use, functions, accuracy, repeatability. Fluke multifunction meter calibrators are the best on the planet. You won't find a single calibration lab without one. I myself have calibrated thousands of various handhelds over 40+ years in this field. I've seen customers buy the wrong meter for their use numerous times. Sometimes total overkill or totally inadequate. Before buying any test equipment write down your requirements, then research and purchase accordingly.
Decent for one can be inadequate for another. Totally relative..
