Do you mind if I take us off topic again and ask why you're getting rid of your GMC? I'm really torn between an SR5 and a Sierra Elevation with the 5.3 / 10 speed.

I realize the dude is a troll - but you really don't have to take anyones view regarding resale value. Just go out and price used trucks and you'll see. I typically buy used vehicles (mostly through private party sales). When I was in the market for a truck, I wanted either a Tacoma or a Tundra. I was looking for something with under 30k miles for under $30k. I could find used GMC, Chevy, Rams all day that met that criteria - but never could I find Tundras (I ruled out Tacomas. ) in my range for year, miles and price.

It amazed me that used Tundras and Tacomas were going for such high prices - not much less than new!

I'm not super interested in used vehicles so I haven't looked that carefully but I've noticed a lot of high end trucks around here (e.g. Denalis) that were only a year old with say 100k kms listed for like $80k CAD. And there's no such thing as an easy miles truck here in the oil patch.

the only thing limited about that truck is the lifespan of the rear wheel arches.

A coworker of mine just got a 19 Ram Limited. It's fine, I guess. I didn't think the ride was any different than my Tundra. Takes up about the same amount of space, and gets about the same gas mileage according to him. I did not like having to use the touch screen for climate control. I much prefer the big dumb dial. I will admit I was a little jealous of the ventilated seats (front & back!). Jealous enough to pay $20k more than my SR5 CM with premium package and give up the reliability factor? Hell no.

Keep that in mind @Corbic , and this is just a friendly FYI.

We have been watching this thread, and having a debate about what brand truck is best is always welcome. The Tundra will take the Pepsi challenge anytime.

I beg to differ on Toyota reliability, my 2019 Tundra was garbage. Countless trips to the dealer, axels (replaced), headlight, interior trim etc...
That said dont expect a new Ram to be reliable, Dodge doesnt have a very good track record. Odds are you wont have problem.. people
forgot the math, Dodge, Ford and GM make 3-4 times the # of trucks Toyota does so expect more online complaints.

Read up on Tundra Cam Tower leaks and rear diff leaks, while your at it look up warped dash.. a new Tundra has a about a 80% chance of coming with a prewarped wavy dashboard.
Head on over the Tacoma forums, want to hear some bitching and moaning.. those guys have lots of problems.

I love the "we have Fords at work, they are always in the shop crap"... Guys that worked for me could F-up the most well made bulletproof vehicle, ever pay attention to how workers drive work trucks?
Its like they TRY to F*** them up.. Most companies dont buy Toyotas for work vehicles so thats not a reasonable comparison.

The only thing you gain going with the Tundra is resale.. if you plan on putting 100k miles on your truck and expect it to be worth something down the road, buy the Toyota.

If you want true Toyota reliablity , but a 4runner or a Land Cruiser... Dont expect a Tundra to be any better than any other brand... you get less features and comfort but you do get great resale.

Bottom line is if American trucks were such garbage, then why do they outsell Toyota 3-4 to 1?

Technically incorrect from what I’ve read. The US Gov bought GM stock rather than giving it a loan and adding more debt to GM’s books. GM “repaying” the bailout consisted of a portion of the overall stock purchase (not the full amount) and getting stock prices back up. They technically accomplished the first feat, but taxpayers still lost a little over $10B in the stock purchase game. Either way, GM got free money from the Gov that it didn’t “pay back.” Ford is the only one of the big 3 that didn’t take a bailout, and for that reason is the only one of the big 3 I would consider purchasing if I weren’t a Toyota fan.

Why would Toyota have great resale??? Hmmmmmmm... it couldn’t possibly be the reliability... it’s just for no reason I guess just for the hell of it. Think about what you’re saying... of course there are people that will have issues with their tundra it’s a production made vehicle. Overall as far as reliability you can’t even compare the “big three” to a Tundra that’s preposterous. Every Ford or Chevy I’ve owned was garbage countless issues with both. I’ve had three tundras 150,000 on one, 105,000 on the second without even as much as a check engine light. Go put a level on a Chevy or Ford dashboard and tell what you come up with. Absolutely preposterous I tell ya.

I would only trade out of my Tundra for a Ram or Chevy diesel or Ram power wagon. In the half ton class nothing can compete with Toyota's reliability. I really wish Toyota would put out a 3/4ton diesel with solid axles

The only thing on the Ram that can compete with Toyota's reliability is the Cummins engine...

Yep, I agree, I'd sooner BUY a Ford rather than any of the "big" three.

Tundras really hold their resale value. I've been looking for a nice used Tundra and they are expensive compared to a RAM.

That's a nice thought but if forced to buy one of the 3, I'd go for GM for having the least bad reliability.

Is there a way to see their full list of reliability rankings? If the Tundra is 6th, I'm really curious which full size trucks are 1st through 5th. (I'm also curious how they come up with 17 full size trucks.)

I ended up just looking at each comparison. All I could find was:

    1. Ram
    2. Nissan
    5. Chevy
    6. Toyota
    7. Ford

So between that and the fact that they all get 3.5 out of 5, it seems like fake news to me.

Well, just to follow up as it has been a very rough 2 weeks for our Denalli's at work. We had not 1 but 2 transmissions go out on our 1500's. Ironically, both with the 6.2l engines. One with 76k mikes, other with 108k mikes. One of the truck also had a broke motor mount. $13k to get transmissions in both trucks. We have replaced motor mounts on 3 of the 6.2 trucks now over the past 6 months as they are starting to get some miles on them.

On Monday, one of our newer 2500hd Denallis just shut off in the parking lot. Our mechanic put in new fuel filter and purged the lines and the Duramax cranked and cranked and would not light. Took it to the dealer and had the ECU replaced. We were about .75 miles down the road and truck fell on its face and died. Now they are saying it needs a new fuse panel, so they think...... Truck is a 17 with 79k mikes I believe.

this is an expensive week as we will be pushing $20k this week........

The Fords were unbelievably more expensive to operate up until this week., the GM's are catching them after this week, haha.

Good news is we bought 2 lightly used Tacoma's for our surveyors to drive and they love them!

Were those 8 speeds in the 6.2s?

Seems there are a lot more problems with the T1s than previous editions. Not sure if that's just part of the territory for the first year of a major redesign or if quality is going to be poor for this generation.

My neighbor's tranny went out too [I'm talking transmissions here, not gender identity]: less than 100,000 miles on his GMC. He seemed thrilled.:frusty:
