First post. (Former Chevy truck owner x 2, but never going back!)

I have a stock SR5 with 18” steel wheels on now. I picked up brand new 2018/2019 20” Platinum take-offs with tires but no TPMS sensors.

I’ve deduced I need 20 degree sensors with 7 Digit IDs or clone-able sensors.

    Now who’s bought their own?
    Which aftermarket brands work?

I was looking at the Dorman direct fit 974-032 sensors. I wouldn’t have to program them as far as I’ve read and I can slip them in myself since the bead is already broke on these tires then just have my buddy rebalance the tires.

Has anybody used Dorman TPMS sensors?
    Are they confirmed to work?
Do I have to clone the IDs for them to work?
Is there an alternate brand out there such as ones found on Amazon?

Or is finding Toyota 0C090’s the best way to go and get a tool to program the different IDs in back and forth when I switch wheels every summer/winter?

Any other ideas from folks who do their own stuff or who do tires all the time?

I’m planning to call Dorman about their sensors to ensure they don’t need programming and just need IDs input and not cloned, then call Autel tomorrow to inquire about their multi-function tools (MaxiCheck Pro will enable ID entering as far as I can tell) because I’m not paying every time I switch tires.

I’d rather have a multifunction tool anyway as I do work on other vehicles I own and for friends with my OBDII enhanced scan tool. I have a cheap VXDAS EL-50448 OTEC-5 I used for my Chevy to relearn position and I’ve read mixed posts that it’ll work and it won’t work to register sensors on Toyota’s and sometimes yes on trucks and sometimes no on trucks, but it worked on my 14 Silverado with 315mhz sensors.

I know I’m asking a lot in a first post but have no experience in the TPMS world and these trucks.

    TIA

I use this tool when changing tires or when a new sensor needs programming.

IMO most of the TPMS Sensor brands are junk that are designed to last 2-3 years.

Use this thread to get sensor types:

Oh yeah! Get the Toyota sensors from @Roman. They are about the same cost as a decent aftermarket.

There are a couple other threads on this where people are reporting needing 8 digit ID sensors for 18+ trucks.
Also, those threads report not needing any tools to relearn the new ID’s to the 2018+ trucks. I believe it’s said that the “TPMS relearn button” on the bottom right of the dash will completely relearn new sensors to the truck as long as they are already set to the correct protocol for the Tundra.

I believe the posters in the other threads recommended OEM Toyota sensors.

Yeah I’ve read every TPMS post I could find on this site and a couple others. Seems like everybody has a different experience. I’ll contact Roman about a quote first.

Can’t go wrong when ordering with @Roman. I ordered a set 4 from him. The stealership wanted to charge me twice as much.
