Neither. With the computer controlled system, you wont see a single gain. And a lot of guys report a loss in tq with them. Stock filter is best

I just bought a K&N drop in for my 04.... Back in the 4th gen camaro days a k&n fipk or slip cai with k&n conical were standard to do asap. Followed by an cat back.. My jeep days that saw mud and lots of dust it was just keep a clean stock filter. Now since my tundra is 90 percent on road and I had 40 dollars off one I said why not.

just dropped an aFE Pro Dry s filter and saw the charcoal sheet glue to the upper air box.
Is this piece really that restrictive?
Any pro/cons to leave it versus removing it?

Yes throttle response fun factor is up, no wife never noticed any increase in noise....but then women are like that some may/may not ever pay attention to such things...
    Thanks...

Removing it doesn't help one bit... of course i dont think it helps emissions one bit either. I removed mine to see and nothing happened. One reason you might keep it on other than toyota hassling you over it is the fact that you wont get any leaves or anything sucked into your engine. I know the filter is there to filter things, but just in case... So do you notice any whistle sound now that you replaced the stock filter?

3" Front lift only, powdercoated beadlocks, plasti-dip emblem, BFG muds, KN dropin filter, horn mod, short antennae, black powdercoated exhaust tip from 2014 Tundra
Did the charcoal delete and added the KN drop in. No real noticeable change, just a louder whistle, but then replaced the gasket and BAM! no more whistle.

    Thanks for the reply.....

I did leave it in there until I received a sane answer...man some of the forums jump on you like a duck on a june bug.........lol......
Never did notice any side affects at all.

I did hear odd noises when I parked at HEB but the timing can be a curve ball.

One because i have not at that point ever lowered window just to listen so I had no baseline and then once the filter was dropped in and happened to lower window heard these little noises like a pump or what not.

To me that is just bug dust until I give it a few hundred miles and see how it performs.

We have a trip to College station A&M in November so that 2 1/2 hour drive should give me some good feed back and give the computer time to settle in with the new filter......
