Does anyone know of a write up to replace the factory brake controller with the tekonsha prodigy? I have heard nightmares about the factory controller and have bought the trim piece to fit the tekonsha (which I had in my 4runner). Looking to do the swap - I have all the pieces but want to make sure I don’t screw it up. Do the wiring harness from the prodigy and the factory wiring match up? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have a 2018 and the IBC works great, but my 2016 was a night mare until Toyota acknowledged that there was an issue. Once they issued several fixes it began to functions as it should. I used a prodigy 2 for a while with its plug and play harness. They changed things up with the 2018's and the plug and play thing won't work, you need to cut and splice to adapt after maarket controllers. Give the IBC a chance to work before wanting to change it out.

I bought all the stuff to swap it in my 2019 as well. Decided to do a test run with the stock controller and it worked as good as my P3 in my other truck. I think single axle trailers with brakes are having the most issues. My trailers are dual axles with brakes on both and I haven’t had any issues yet. Using the manual lever and a gain of 6, I could bring the truck to a stop with just the trailer brakes. There is a tech sheet floating around that prodigy uses when connecting to wires for the 2019.

You are correct, the only issue I had with the 2018 IBC was with a friends single axle trailer with Led lights, and the TSB fixed that. Its either 36-19 or 19-36, I forget which. My dealer did the TSB on my word based on the issues I had with my 2016 and making myself a pain in their ass until Toyota acknowledged there was a problem and fixed it with a TSB.
