interesting. That's different than all the research I've done, and I researched the crap out of this before I bought my truck with a rusty frame. I guess I got lucky.

Well, I've spent a bunch of time under the truck and, yes, it will need some work...but it isn't a total loss. There is a hole in the frame near the driver's side front wheel - I'm talking to a welder about that. The good news is the cab mount brackets seem OK, but one of the flanges for the cab mount bushings gave way. So, now I have to figure out how to fix that. Anyone every undertake that project on a 2002 Tundra Limited?

Can’t find the link, but a retired Toy Mechanic took on a similar project last year. He removed the bed and welded some long plates along the inside of the C-frame from rear to halfway up the frame.

    Yours sounds a little different.

    Post up some pics.

My honest opinion after chasing frame rust on a Jeep is
Option 1 sell it and let someone else worry about it.
Option 2 buy a new frame and do your own replacement.

I plated the frame for 3 years in different areas by the time I just called it quits and sold it off.

I love my truck. Short of the frame issues, it's been great - incredibly low maintenance, performs really well. Frankly, I don't have the cash to buy something comparable, so I want to fix this short-term stuff and then attack the rest of the frame in an organized fashion in the near future.

The frame is really simple. Basic welding is not hard. I have some rust but nothing even close to being a hole. But if I ever have issues I will just weld new sections in as needed.

    Bringing this back up.

After researching this a bit, I made an appointment to have mine looked at. When I did all the services on mine, it appears to be a bit rusty so they said they would check it out free of charge. I am a little worried of everything else they will find but free is free.

Hey guys. New to the world here. Just bought a 2012 Tundra TRD. Private sale. Took to dealer and they found a small hole in one of the frame crossbars under the bed. They refused to do anything about it as they “sprayed it in January” and that was their fix. I sent an email to the claims group for the class action to see if they could do anything. All that being said, any advice on where to go for here?

I don't think 2012 was covered under the extended warranty portion. If it is just the crossbars for the spare tire, it would be pretty simple for a weld shop to fix that.
