MARYSVILLE, Wash. — As many as seven people were injured and two were killed in a shooting at Marysville-Pilchuck High School, a school of 2,500 students in Washington state, according to reports coming out of the Seattle area.

FOX31 Denver sister station KCPQ in Seattle was reporting that the school, which is about 40 miles north of Seattle, was placed on lockdown at 11:45 a.m. MST Friday, and that at least two had been airlifted away from the scene.

Though reports varied on the amount of individuals injured, the Seattle Times was the first to report that two students, one of which being the shooter, were dead. The newspaper was frequently tweeting unconfirmed reports about the possible number of those injured.

The Times was also reporting that one of the students was transported away from the school with a head wound.

A Marysville police spokesperson confirmed that the shooter was a student, that police believe that individual was the lone gunman and that the individual died from self-inflicted wounds.

Police and emergency vehicles could be seen around the school Friday morning. Shortly after 12 a.m. groups of students were seen walking away from the school with their hands in the air.

Eyewitness reports indicated the shooting took place in the school’s cafeteria and that the shooter used a pistol, not any sort of rifle. But that information could not be confirmed by police as of 1:30 p.m.
